FamilyAid is one of America's leading providers of solutions to family homelessness. Our mission is to empower parents and caregivers facing homelessness to secure and sustain housing and build solid foundations for their children's futures. We prevent family homelessness whenever possible, reduce harm if homelessness can't be avoided by housing families as quickly as possible, mitigate trauma, especially for children, and provide wraparound supports that foster long-term stability. We provide children and parents with a path to self-sufficiency via two-generation educational programs, housing search and placement support, and connections to vital resources they need to return to their own homes. Our strategic vision and bold strategies to reduce two-generation homelessness successfully served 5,000 children and parents in Greater Boston last year. Position Summary Reporting to the Program Manager, the Direct Care Staff works with homeless families temporarily living at the program, ensuring their comfort, safety and adherence to the rules and regulations. The Direct Care Staff provides direct care and essential services to families and supports the safe day-to-day operations. Working collaboratively with other staff, the Direct Care Staff supports the rapid and successful transition of families to permanent, stable housing, ensuring their well-being and safety through a trauma-informed approach.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Direct Care Staff ensures that the program is a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every family member, visitor, and staff. The Direct Care Staff will assist families in understanding and complying with policies and practices and will monitor shared areas and family units to maintain the safety and security of residents and the premises. The Direct Care Staff will respond to client crises, adhering to agency and state incident reporting and child safety protocols and will uses person-centered, harm-reduction, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches with families in all interactions.
Requirements:
High School or GED required. Bilingual in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish required. Associate or bachelor's degree preferred, or significant relevant experience. Understanding of Trauma Informed Care is preferred. Understanding of de-escalation techniques is preferred. Previous human service experience, preferably residential, with a strong interest in working with homeless families.
Work Schedule and Location:
This position requires an onsite presence. The role is not eligible for remote or hybrid work and is classified as essential for weather emergencies. The program is located in Newton and is accessible via public transportation. We currently have three schedule opportunities available:
Sunday-Thursday:
7:00 AM-3:30
PM Sunday, Monday, Friday & Saturday:
3:00 PM-11:00
PM Tuesday-Saturday:
7:00 AM-3:30
PM Starting Compensation:
