Job Description

The Direct Care Worker is critical to the trauma-informed, healing care that we provide for the children we serve. Direct Care Workers shall show sufficient leadership qualities, problem-solving skills, time-management skills, life skills mentoring abilities, and the capacity to love unconditionally. Must be able to nurture the strengths while coping with the weaknesses of a large group dynamic. It is imperative that the Direct Care Worker be adept in group relationships assimilation and providing individualized care for the purpose of maintaining a cohesive working group.
Primary Duties and Responsibility:
Transport to and remain with residents at all appointments, extracurricular activities, and outings Plan and prepare for shifts with excellence Complete daily logs and weekly/monthly schedules Intervene in emergencies with the crisis-management policy and procedures and immediately after the incident is de-escalated, complete an incident report, and follow all protocols in the required time Assist any ill resident according to policy and procedure Be able to coordinate, schedule, and lead personal growth and process groups Must operate with a widely ranging and flexible schedule Work collaboratively with team members on your shift Model and teach residents daily living skills and age-appropriate behaviors Strive for a healthy team, working environment, and group May be required to dispense medications upon full training by the Nurse Relate to the residents served by HOP in the following ways: Be content with small successes, and even with a slight degree of improvement Find creative ways to praise residents who have little or no success or improvement Be ready to receive an upset resident and aid them in the assimilation and intake process, as it can be traumatic Take a good deal of negative and try to give out daily, as much positive as possible Work with children who may confront you with a gamut of psychological stress, tension, anxieties, mental health conditions, and strenuous behavior in relation to past and present experiences and people Be prepared for the "shock and disappointment" they will experience when they discover that the children they may have expected to be "grateful, responsive, and affectionate" to people who have come to take care of them are often hostile, or even angry. The language and intense feelings with which they express themselves can be found to not be within the previous life experience of the
Direct Care Worker Job Qualifications:
Must possess (at minimum) a High School Diploma or GED Must demonstrate strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, as well as be self-motivated and confident Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, as evidenced by being team-oriented, able to work collaboratively in a culturally competent manner with individuals from a very diverse population and personnel pool, demonstrating patience and empathy, possessing excellent conflict resolution skills, as well as a compassionate attitude and excellent listening skills Must demonstrate an ability to work well with adolescents and see their strengths in the midst of defiance, being able to adapt and individualize programmatic interventions to utilize strengths and skills Must demonstrate a commitment to resident success and have reasonable, trauma-informed standards based on individual ability Must demonstrate proficiency in Office 365, including navigation of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft SharePoint Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate with team members clearly and effectively, both in-person and electronically Must prove trustworthy with sensitive information Must be committed to growth and willing to receive correction and instruction, as well as possess an ability to be resourceful and proactive in the face of difficulty Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License, with appropriate insurance Must possess a professional attitude and appearance Must have a thorough understanding of the organization's policies and overall mission, and how each is best executed Must be able to provide a flexible schedule that would offer weekday and weekend hours Morning, Afternoon, and Midnight Shifts available Must possess an excellent customer service attitude Must be committed to continuous, independent learning This position is subject to all of House of Providence's Code of Ethics, as outlined in HR2, including ethics related to inclusive culture and equitable opportunities As an employee at House of Providence, you must be willing to operate as a team player and assist where needed. Every staff member shall be trained as a Direct Care Worker and may be asked to assist in this way. May be required to respond to critical issues on a 24/7 basis. Working in a normal office environment, the employee may be required to sit, bend, stoop, use a keyboard, see, talk, and hear. May occasionally lift medium to heavy objects.
