Must be able to maintain appropriate boundaries with members who have significant behavioral issues and the potential to become aggressive with Support Coaches. Our Support Coaches will be a part of a member-centered program that honors personal development and choice by fostering independence, developing social and life skills, and strengthening community inclusion. Our activities are geared toward exploring health and wellness, outdoor adventures, volunteering at local establishments, going to restaurants, and completing errands in the community. All activities encourage new interests and help build socialization and living skills. Support Coaches will establish a weekly curriculum and therapeutic environment to deliver effective services through positive behavioral supports and professionalism. This position supports our members to maintain their independence and empowers them to become integrated members of their communities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: creating a schedule of weekly activities for members to teach and reinforce independent living skills, implementing behavior plans, providing an appropriate level of supervision, one-to-one personal care as needed, accompanying/transporting members into the community for activities, administering medication, and working as a critical part of an interdisciplinary team.
Requirements:
A minimum of a high school diploma, BACHELOR'S
DEGREE PREFERRED
, prior experience working with the developmentally disabled population or individuals who are behaviorally challenged, valid Basic NJ driver's license with a good driving history(no probationary licences allowed), ability to drive a large vehicle, ability to work with individuals from a diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, ability to work effectively with clients, including intervention and relationship building skills. Must have the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, the ability to lift/transfer members from wheelchairs, must be able to physically care for members and their personal hygiene needs, as well as participate in all activities alongside members.
