About the Role We are looking for a dependable, caring, and energetic person to join the support team for 42-year-old twin sisters with cerebral palsy who live independently together in Manhattan. One sister is a disability rights advocate, speaker, consultant, and writer, while the other is a professional artist and educator. They lead active lives and enjoy spending time with friends, getting out in their neighborhood, attending activities and events, and spending time at home with their sweet dog, Lucky. This role is about more than providing personal care. You'll help two active, independent women manage their daily routines, participate in their community, and continue pursuing their professional and personal interests. What You'll Be Doing Responsibilities include: Providing assistance with daily personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meals Assisting safely with transfers between bed, motorized wheelchair, toilet, and shower chair Accompanying and supporting community outings and activities Providing Community Habilitation support focused on independence and community participation Helping with light household tasks and organization Working alongside another staff member to provide consistent and respectful support Who Would Be a Good Fit? - 11:00 PM This could be a great weekend position for a college or graduate student, healthcare worker, artist, educator, or someone working part-time during the week.
Physical Requirements This position involves hands-on assistance with wheelchair transfers and other mobility needs. Applicants must be physically able to safely assist with transfers after receiving training. Adequate strength, reach, balance, and mobility are important for performing these responsibilities safely. Experience & Training Previous experience as a PCA, DSP, HHA, CNA, caregiver, or Community Habilitation staff member is a plus, but it is not required . We're happy to train the right person. Reliability, compassion, good judgment, and a willingness to learn are most important. Personal Care Considerations The position involves close personal assistance with bathing, toileting, dressing, and grooming. Respect for privacy, dignity, personal boundaries, and individual preferences is essential. 0 per week Application Question(s): Due to the nature of transfer assistance, candidates with sufficient height, reach, and physical strength to safely support wheelchair transfers are preferred. We have found that ideal candidates have been at least 5'6" in height.
