We currently have both part-time and full-time opportunities available. This is a hands-on animal care position working with horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, and barn cats in a therapeutic farm environment.

Please note:

This is not an entry-level horse care position. Applicants must have a minimum of 3+ years of current, hands-on equine care experience. Position Options Part-Time Approximately 16-26 hours per week with potential for additional hours $22-24/hour depending on experience and position Availability to work alternating weekends, approximately 1-2 weekends per month, is required Full-Time Full-time hours for the right experienced candidate $22-24/hour depending on experience and position Medical, dental, and vision benefits Paid time off (PTO) Some alternating weekend coverage, approximately 1-2 weekends per month, may be required What You'll Do Our Animal Caregivers are responsible for the daily health, safety, and well-being of our animals.

Responsibilities include:

Feeding horses and other farm animals according to individualized feed plans Administering oral medications and supplements Grooming, hoof picking, blanketing, haltering, and leading horses Cleaning and mucking stalls, shelters, pastures, and animal enclosures Operating a UTV and small trailer for pasture cleaning and farm duties Monitoring animals for signs of illness, injury, discomfort, or behavioral changes Providing basic immediate care for minor injuries and assisting with special-care needs according to established protocols Checking fencing, gates, shelters, water sources, and animal environments for safety Maintaining accurate animal health, medication, feeding, and behavioral records Communicating concerns and observations promptly with the animal care and equine teams

What We're Looking For Required:

Minimum 3+ years of current, hands-on equine care experience Strong knowledge of horse behavior, body language, herd dynamics, horsemanship, and equine safety Confidence safely working around horses in herd, pasture, stall, and enclosure settings Ability to recognize common signs of equine illness, injury, distress, or behavioral changes Experience with routine horse care, including feeding, grooming, hoof picking, blanketing, haltering, and leading Understanding of safe farm-animal handling practices Ability to accurately follow written feed, medication, and animal-care plans Ability to safely operate a UTV while pulling a small trailer Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding farm work Willingness to work outdoors year-round in Oregon weather, including rain, heat, cold, and mud

Preferred:

Recent professional barn, ranch, equine facility, veterinary, or farm-animal care experience Experience with donkeys, goats, sheep, and pigs Positive Reinforcement (R+) training/handling experience Experience identifying and responding appropriately to equine or farm-animal health concerns About Us The Center at Heron Hill is an EAGALA-based equine and ecotherapy program serving a diverse population throughout the tri-county area.
