Job Description

Fir Hill RTF is looking for DSS (Direct Support Staff) to provide Mental Health services in a 24-hour residential setting, serving adults with serious and persistent mental illness and/or chemical dependency. You'll gain valuable experience by helping to maintain a caring and supportive setting for our residents. You'll also improve your therapeutic group facilitation and individual skills training skill set. We actively engage our residents in treatment related activities by promoting community integration, and recovery model approach (e.g. cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning, nutrition, medications, social skills, activities, and communication). You'll also gain experience by coordinating with the pharmacy and administering medications. Starting rate will depend on experience-DOE
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provides individual and group recreational, social and skills training services under a professionally developed service plan; keeps records of individual status; performs treatment plan directed case management functions under close supervision; performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under close supervision of a Administrator who assigns work, establishes goals, and reviews the results obtained for overall effectiveness.

Supervision of others is not a responsibility of positions in this classification. Typical Duties
  • Duties include, but are not limited to the following Provide oversight and mental health services in a residential setting serving adults with serious and persistent mental illness.
Help to create and maintain a caring and supportive setting. Monitor for emotional and behavioral changes. Reinforces culture of abstinence and recovery. Provide individual and group skills training to assist in promoting community tenure (e.g. cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning). Coordinate and facilitate resident activities and community outings. Monitor medications and assist with medication administration. Work effectively with case managers, crisis workers, families of residents, and others involved to provide well-coordinated treatment. Complete documentation in timely fashion. Assist residents with shopping, cleaning, laundry and other housekeeping duties as needed. Other job duties as assigned. Requirements for the Position
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Any satisfactory equivalent combination of at least 1 year of relevant work, education, training or experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

MUST REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY
Working knowledge of the general concepts of mental health and chemical dependency as well as community resources; Ability to establish positive working relationships with other employees, individuals and their families, other agencies, and the public; Ability to follow directions in a professional manner; Ability to prepare reports and document individual services in a timely and professional manner; Ability to work within a team and collaborate with team members; Knowledge of and ability to act professionally with regard to a code of ethics and confidentiality.

Sees using depth perception; stands; sits; moves about the work area; climbs 1 flight of stairs; lifts up to 15 lbs.; pushes, pulls, moves carts and carries up to 10 lbs.; operates a keyboard; speaks clearly and audibly; reads a 12 pt. font; hears a whispered level of speech; Heat/Cold/Humidity
