Assists clients with daily tasks including bathing, medication reminders, and light housekeeping; may also provide transportation for appointments and errands. These roles do not always require formal certification.
We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, patient, and professional Direct Care Staff/Caretaker to provide hands-on support to an individual with disabilities and behavioral support needs. This position requires someone who is extremely reliable, calm under pressure, patient, consistent, and comfortable working with behaviors. The individual may occasionally resist directions, refuse tasks, become verbally upset, scream, raise their voice, or require repeated prompting and redirection. Behavioral Support Expectations The individual may sometimes: Give pushback when asked to complete a task Refuse or delay following directions Say "no" repeatedly or become resistant to routines Scream, yell, or raise their voice when frustrated Become verbally upset when redirected Require multiple prompts before completing hygiene, meals, medications, or household routines Become frustrated when preferred activities are interrupted Have difficulty transitioning from one activity to another Test limits or boundaries with staff Require staff to repeat instructions using simple, calm communication Need additional time to calm down before returning to a task Require redirection to appropriate activities or behaviors Staff must understand that these behaviors are part of the individual's support needs and must be handled with patience, consistency, professionalism, and appropriate behavioral redirection.
Staff are expected to:
Remain calm during yelling, screaming, refusal, or verbal resistance Avoid power struggles and unnecessary confrontation Use clear, simple, and respectful instructions Give the individual appropriate time to process directions Provide choices when appropriate Use positive reinforcement and encouragement Redirect the individual when behaviors begin to escalate Maintain consistent boundaries and expectations Follow established behavioral strategies and care instructions Never yell back, threaten, insult, embarrass, or physically intimidate the individual Maintain safety while allowing the individual appropriate space to calm down Report significant behavioral changes or incidents to management Accurately document behavioral concerns, redirection provided, and the individual's response Primary Responsibilities Provide direct supervision and assistance with activities of daily living Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, hygiene, and personal care Provide repeated prompting when necessary to complete personal hygiene routines Prepare meals and assist with feeding as needed Administer medications according to the prescribed schedule and instructions Ensure medication administration is properly documented Encourage participation in daily routines without becoming confrontational Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and structured living environment Support household routines, including cleaning and organization Provide supervision to promote the individual's health and safety Encourage independence while stepping in when assistance is needed Monitor for changes in mood, behavior, health, appetite, or overall condition Communicate behavioral or medical concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor Follow all care plans, medication instructions, behavioral strategies, and safety procedures Complete required documentation accurately and on time Maintain professional communication with family members, supervisors, and the care team Protect the individual's dignity, privacy, rights, and confidentiality at all times Requirements Reliable transportation is required Must be able to work in both Hollywood and Miami Gardens Must be available for the complete schedule listed Must be dependable, punctual, and consistent Must be comfortable providing hands-on personal care, including bathing and feeding Must be comfortable administering medications as directed Must be comfortable working with an individual who may scream, refuse directions, become verbally upset, or require frequent redirection Must be patient and able to remain calm during challenging situations Must be able to set appropriate boundaries without becoming argumentative or aggressive Must be able to follow behavioral support instructions consistently Must have strong communication and documentation skills Must be compassionate, responsible, respectful, and professional Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred Previous DSP, caregiver, behavioral support, home health, or direct care experience is preferred Medication administration experience is strongly preferred Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who understands that this position involves more than companionship. The individual requires hands-on care, supervision, medication support, structure, behavioral redirection, and consistency. You should be comfortable hearing "no," dealing with pushback, repeating instructions, and remaining calm if the individual screams or becomes frustrated. We are looking for someone who does not take behaviors personally and can continue providing respectful care even during difficult moments. Patience, consistency, and reliability are extremely important for this position.
