In this important role, you will help create a safe, respectful, engaging, and supportive environment that promotes each resident's dignity, independence, comfort, and overall well-being. The ideal candidate will demonstrate patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with seniors, particularly individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. You will work collaboratively with the care team to meet residents' physical, emotional, social, and personal care needs while encouraging meaningful daily engagement. Duties and Responsibilities Provide compassionate, person-centered care to residents in accordance with their individualized care plans. Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, continence care, and personal hygiene. Assist with meals and hydration, including proper positioning, encouragement, and monitoring for changes in eating or drinking patterns. Provide mobility and transfer assistance while following appropriate safety and fall-prevention procedures. Monitor residents for changes in physical, behavioral, cognitive, or emotional condition and promptly report concerns to the nurse or supervisor. Provide redirection, reassurance, and emotional support to residents experiencing confusion, anxiety, agitation, or other dementia-related behaviors. Encourage residents to participate in appropriate recreational, social, and therapeutic activities that promote engagement and quality of life. Maintain a safe environment and monitor residents to reduce the risk of falls, wandering, elopement, and other safety concerns. Respect residents' privacy, dignity, personal preferences, cultural needs, and individual routines. Follow infection prevention and control practices, including proper hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when required. Maintain accurate and timely documentation and communicate important resident information to the nursing and care team. Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and comfortable resident environment. Follow facility policies, procedures, emergency protocols, and applicable state and federal regulations. Respond appropriately to emergencies and obtain assistance from the nurse or emergency services when necessary. Communicate professionally and respectfully with residents, families, visitors, nurses, medication aides/med techs, and other members of the care team. Report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, injuries, or other safety concerns immediately in accordance with facility policy and applicable regulations. Skills and Qualifications Previous experience providing care to older adults, preferably in assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or home care. Experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other cognitive impairments is preferred. Compassionate, patient, dependable, and respectful approach to resident care. Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to changes in residents' condition or behavior. Knowledge of dementia care principles, including redirection, validation, and person-centered approaches. Ability to assist residents safely with ADLs, mobility, transfers, meals, and personal care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary care team. Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect residents' privacy and dignity. Ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging behaviors or stressful situations. Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification as required by the facility. Completion of required caregiver training and ongoing in-service education. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and accurately document care provided. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to work assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
