Full Job Description Essential Duties:
Emergency Shelter and Housing Program Direct Client Services:
Respond to 24-hour Crisis Hotline by providing crisis counseling to victims and perpetrators of domestic violence and others needing information, support and referrals. Provide advocacy to clients living in emergency shelter and the La Casa, Inc. housing program by actively supporting their self-identified goals. This includes making home visits once a month or more as needed. Provide advocacy and coordination with internal referrals, housing searches, governmental agencies, medical and social service providers, school systems, and the legal and court systems. Provide transportation related to advocacy and client goals. Assist in the provision of residential care services. Coordinate clients' needs for move-out process, and conduct Home Quality Standard inspections as needed. Facilitate educational, recreational, and support groups on a variety of topics including but not limited to: economic empowerment, workforce development, Housing 101, nutrition, life skills, other topics as requested by clients. Assists in Facilitating Independent 101 Life skills monthly group Ensure a safe and welcoming shelter environment by maintaining the physical space and using conflict resolution skills when necessary. Distribute food, clothing, and personal items. Transport residents to and from appointments, school and other approved destination. Mediate resident conflicts using motivational interviewing skills. Provide educational presentations on domestic violence issues to community organizations and groups. Provide all services in an empathetic manner, using the principles of trauma-informed care.
Administrative Duties:
Conduct NMCEH Coordinated Assessment Surveys and initial application interviews. Assist in rent calculations for housing clients. Assist with volunteer and new staff training. Assist in the development of policies and procedures for shelter protocol. Act as a team lead for assigned projects. Complete all required documentation and paperwork in a timely and through manner, including billing, case notes, and critical incident reports.
Training:
Attend staff and agency meetings and internal and external trainings, monthly team meetings, and weekly supervision, as scheduled. Ongoing professional development including keeping abreast of recent trends and developments regarding domestic violence and advocacy as they pertain to the clients accessing La Casa, Inc. services. Attend seminars and trainings approved by supervisor. Network with community providers, landlords, law enforcement and judiciary, city, state and federal legislators and the public.
Additional Duties:
Ability to drive agency vehicle on a daily basis. Other duties as assigned.
Expectations:
Promote excellent internal and external customer service at all times. Follow all safety rules and guidelines and maintain a neat, safe, organized workspace. Assist donors with unloading items into carts and pushing carts to outside donations area when needed. Pick up bags or boxes of donations from outside front area or lobby area to maintain clear paths. Aptitude for working with people and supporting those experiencing crises; strong problem solving abilities; ability to support others without judgment. Maintain strict confidentiality per agency policy, and federal requirements. Demonstrate positive role-model leadership and work cooperatively with others. Model respect, understanding and appreciation for all people. Exhibit skills in comprehending, interpreting and supporting the organization. Ability to succeed in and contribute to a team environment. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure without losing sight of objectives. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to work independently.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field.
Experience:
A minimum of one (1) year full-time (can be volunteer or paid) experience in a domestic violence position working directly with the public.
Substitution of education/experience:
Is allowed on a one for one year basis.
Language:
Bilingual in Spanish/English is highly desirable.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record, current CPR Certification.
Insurance Requirements:
Must be at least 25 years of age per agency driving policy.
Other:
Post-offer drug/alcohol screen, TB test, and background check. Warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental with demonstrated ability to maintain healthy boundaries with clients and staff.
