Why does the job exist? This position exists to ensure people with hearing loss have full and equitable communication access. The role provides direct advocacy to resolve individual communication barriers, offers system-level guidance to agencies on their responsibilities, and delivers community outreach to increase awareness of our services and the Telecommunication Equipment Distribution Program. It also supports students transitioning into college or employment and maintains clear case documentation and data reporting to strengthen service delivery. How does it get done?
This position:
Advocates directly for individuals with hearing loss to resolve communication access issues with organizations Provides education on agencies and systems about legal and practical responsibilities to provide communication access Coordinates with partners and organizations to reduce communication barriers at a community and statewide level Provides outreach at events, hosting booths, and sharing information about the agency¿s services and equipment programs Guides students with hearing loss as they transition from high school to college or employment, offering resources and support Maintains clear case notes, tracking services provided, and submitting consistent data reports to support program accountability Who are the customers? NMCDHH staff and individuals who are Deaf, Deaf Blind, and Hard of Hearing as well as agencies, organizations, and hearing individuals. Ideal Candidate NMCDHH staff and individuals who are Deaf, Deaf Blind, and Hard of Hearing as well as agencies, organizations, and hearing individuals. Minimum Qualification Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver License and must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
