HELP of Southern Nevada's Shannon West Homeless Youth Center (SWHYC) provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, and permanent housing services for youth and young adults that are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. The SWHYC motivates residents towards reaching self-sufficiency by providing training and skills to further their education, employment, social and life skills
Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the SWHYC Assistant Director, the Data Entry Intake Specialist interviews and assesses applicants, determines program eligibility, maintains accurate participant records, and enters required information into agency databases, including the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). This position supports data quality, intake documentation, and resident interactions using a professional, client-centered, and trauma-informed approach. Conducts face-to-face assessments to screen potential participants for program enrollment. Determines if a potential participant is an appropriate fit for the program. Completes intake paperwork with detailed accuracy. Enrolls participants into the appropriate SWHYC program according to grant requirements. Maintains all computer records in the data system, including client demographics and services provided. Creates detailed intake notes and documents them in the data system. Uploads documents into the data system per program standards. Creates new intake files and submits the file to the case manager supervisor for review. Corrects data deficiencies. Completes status assessment when required. Provides a wide variety of referral information to clients. Maintains SWHYC resident files and monitors the movement and accuracy of all resident files. Monitors and tracks required information for monthly reports and summaries. Maintains complete and accurate participant records. Provides crisis intervention as needed. Maintains the record room, including archiving files when appropriate. Reports all program violations within 24 hours of the incident. Responds to emails in an appropriate and timely manner. Maintains secure storage of program-generated paperwork. Supervises residents' use of prescribed and over-the-counter medications and documents medication compliance. Completes all required paperwork and logs, including incident reports, runaway reports, and resident tracking logs. Provides transportation to appointments when necessary. Attends scheduled trainings. Assists with hourly rounds when necessary. Assists with the facilitation of daily life skills groups when necessary. Assists with daily meal preparation when necessary. Assists with resident follow-up activities as needed. Other duties, as may be assigned. The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of local social service agencies and programs as they pertain to youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Experience and understanding of issues affecting youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds, with sensitivity to diverse populations. Effective written, verbal, and listening skills, including the ability to independently initiate and respond to correspondence. Ability to maintain order and exercise appropriate judgment in crisis situations. Ability to remain flexible and adjust to shifting priorities. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents, coworkers, partner agencies, and the general public. Ability to organize work schedules and manage time effectively. Ability to understand and follow all agency policies and procedures. General computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work flexible hours.
Required Qualifications:
Proof of high school graduation or GED. Data entry and HMIS experience. Active Nevada driver's license and clean DMV driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active health card. Active CPR/First Aid certification. Crisis Prevention Institute certification. Previous experience working in a social service setting.
