Therapeutic Docket Case Manager

Therapeutic Docket Coordinator General Definition and Conditions of Work:
This position provides intensive supervision and case management for the Therapeutic Docket participants. Work is performed under the supervision of the Therapeutic Docket Coordinator, Assistant Director and Executive Director. Work involves risk to personal safety due to close contact with the offender population in a community corrections setting. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. This is primarily sedentary work requiring the ability to type and operate a computer. Vocal communication and the ability to convey information and or detailed instructions accurately, loudly, and quickly is required. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word level. Visual acuity is necessary to analyze written or computer data and to observe general surroundings and activities.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks will include:
1. Acts as member of the Therapeutic Docket Treatment Team to share responsibilities for the program. 2. Provides intensive supervision including random drug screening to a caseload averaging 25 program participants. 3. Assesses participants for risks and needs, develops and implements case plans based on assessments. 4. Provides accurate and timely reports on participants to the General District Court Judge on a twice-monthly basis and as otherwise needed. 5. Communicates regularly with Region Ten, Partner for Mental Health, Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail, and other community resources regarding participants. 6. Provides referrals for additional services including life skills, employment and other services to assist individuals while in the Therapeutic Docket Program. 7. Maintains accurate and complete files on individuals and appropriately logs case information in the necessary databases. 8. Adapt, modify and change in accordance to "best practices" as they are implemented within OAR and Therapeutic Docket Program. 9. Share responsibility with all staff for the successful operation of the agency. 10. Represent OAR-Jefferson Area Community Corrections and Therapeutic Docket Program positively in public at all times. 11. Perform related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Possess a strong desire to work with and assist a population of those diagnosed with a serious mental illness (i.e., schizophrenia, bipolar, etc.), often times combined with substance use disorders. Possess general knowledge of serious mental illness, substance use disorder, treatment, community corrections and evidence based practices. Possess general knowledge of the criminal justice system, law enforcement etc. Possess general knowledge of human behavior, social science and rehabilitative techniques and objectives. Possess the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the courts, legal, law enforcement, clients, victims, families and the general public. Possess skills in conflict resolution/de-escalation and the ability to utilize those skills in appropriate situations. Possess the ability to establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with coworkers, administrative and management staff. Possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to learn and apply new techniques and skills as trained. Ability to utilize a computer, email, word processing and database management system.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in criminal justice, social work, sociology, psychology, counseling or some related field. Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge base of community corrections. Has 2 plus years of experience in community corrections or related field. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to accept responsibility and duties.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver's license. Possession of or ability to acquire
VCIN/NCIC
certification. Possess means of transportation to meet the necessary job requirements. Must meet and maintain the minimum qualifications for the position established by OAR and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
