The Public Outreach Assistant is responsible for supporting those local community events, maintaining positive relationships with district stakeholders, and creating and capturing social media content to promote the district. Essential Functions Below are examples of the Public Outreach Assistant's direct work and responsibilities. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Event Support Assist the Public Outreach Division in supporting community and special events; assist with logistics coordination, event set-up/take-down, and administrative event functions under the direction of the Public Outreach Specialist. Use District registration software to schedule facilities, monitor event registration, and manage cash handling. Assist in collecting and summarizing event surveys and participant feedback for review by the Public Outreach Specialist and Events team. Assists with creating and capturing social media content to promote District programs, events, and community outreach initiatives. Community & Stakeholder Relations Maintains positive and professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Represent and promote the District by tabling at community partner events, distributing program information, and fostering awareness of CARD services and offerings among the public. Assist in supporting activities that raise awareness of event sponsorship and donation opportunities. Assist with vendor communication and monitoring compliance with District and County Public Health requirements as assigned. Mascot & Branded Merchandise Support Assist in coordinating requests for the District mascot, Carder, including scheduling and staffing support for events and appearances. Assist with the District's branded merchandise program, including supporting the ordering, purchasing, selling, and inventory tracking of promotional items and merchandise. Assist with ordering and coordinating merchandise, swag, and other supplies needed for District events. Administration Maintain accurate records and submit reports as required; attend staff meetings and travel to event sites as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education & Experience Associate's degree in Recreation Administration, Communications, Public Administration, Event Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Minimum one (1) year of experience in public outreach, event coordination, recreation programming, or a related field. Experience working with volunteers or supervising part-time/seasonal staff preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of event planning and coordination principles and operational best practices. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced event environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to represent the District professionally in public-facing settings. Experience creating engaging social media content, including capturing photos and videos and developing content that promotes District programs, events, and community engagement across multiple platforms. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, volunteers, vendors, event partners, and the public. Ability to exercise sound judgment and serve effectively as an event lead when needed. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with recreation management software (Active Network or similar) preferred. Other Requirements Possession of a valid California Driver License and ability to be insured under the District's vehicle liability policy. Must pass a background check as a condition of employment. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required by event schedules. Work Environment Frequent performance of moderate manual labor; frequent sitting, walking, standing for long periods of time; occasional bending, twisting, kneeling or squatting. Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Constant use of overall vision. Frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Frequent hearing and talking in person; occasionally by phone. Frequent public and co-worker contact; occasional working alone. Frequent exposure to loud noises and large groups of people. Work is performed in a typical temperature-controlled office environment with standard office noise. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve interacting with individuals who are angry or upset.
