Senior Social Coordinator
Job Description
The City of College Park, Maryland, Department of Youth, Family, and Senior Services is seeking a qualified and compassionate Full-Time Social Coordinator to support the Seniors Program. This 40-hour-per-week position is ideal for a professional dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for adults ages 62 and older through engaging social, recreational, cultural, educational, and wellness activities. Position Overview The ideal candidate will: Be a self-starter who works independently with minimal supervision. Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Plan, coordinate, and implement diverse programs and activities for older adults. Effectively collaborate with volunteers, entertainers, and community partners. Demonstrate strong written communication skills, including the ability to create a monthly newsletter. Be computer proficient and able to utilize platforms such as Zoom and other technology based tools. Key Responsibilities The Social Coordinator functions include but are not limited to the following: Plan and coordinate up to 12 senior day trips annually, including accommodations for participants with varying mobility needs. Partner with the Seniors Program Manager to organize four special events each year. Manage event registration, attendance, waitlists, and participant communications. Collect and process payments for activities and events. Purchase approved event supplies and materials. Maintain accurate activity records and reports. Promote programs and activities in collaboration with the Seniors Program Manager. Foster positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with senior participants. Attend required meetings and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or education and relevant training equivalent to four years of college education. Two (2) years of experience as an event coordinator with the capacity for 40 or more persons ages 62 and above. Must enjoy working with the elderly, relate well to seniors, and be able to lead and motivate others. Valid driver's license in the state of residence with a satisfactory driving record. Strong written and verbal communication skills. High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications. Compensation and Benefits The starting salary range is $32.58 - $33.40 per hour, depending on qualifications, along with a competitive benefits package that includes participation in the Maryland State Retirement system.
