DESCRIPTION CVSVC

is seeking a Prevention Educator to develop and deliver community education focused on trauma, opioid use disorder (OUD), substance use, harm reduction, and violence prevention. This position works with youth, families, older adults, educators, professionals, and community organizations to build awareness, strengthen prevention and intervention skills, and connect community members with supportive resources. The Prevention Educator will lead the agency's Trauma, Opioids & Violence Community Education Initiative, developing responsive programming based on community needs and emerging concerns. The role combines education, outreach, community partnerships, and prevention programming in a non-judgmental, trauma-informed environment. This position includes 24-hour crisis hotline coverage and may require evening and weekend meetings, events, and community activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and deliver educational programs on OUD, substance use, harm reduction, trauma, violence prevention, healthy coping, medication safety, and related topics.
• Provide workshops, presentations, trainings, and activities for schools, families, community organizations, professionals, and other audiences.
• Build and maintain partnerships with schools, service providers, community organizations, senior-serving organizations, and other local partners.
• Identify community needs and develop programming that responds to local interests and emerging concerns.
• Provide information, referrals, and connections to community resources.
• Support community outreach, special events, social media, and prevention campaigns.
• Collect basic program data and evaluate educational activities and outcomes.
• Recruit and assist with training volunteers as needed
• Provide back-up coverage for the agency's 24-hour crisis hotline
• Be available for evening and weekend meetings, events, and community activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least an Associate's Degree AND at least two (2) years of experience in a human services-related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of a valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment and throughout employment;
• Successful clearance of the required Suitability Determination.

The HELP Program is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the HELP Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a "HELP Program" position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying positions filled through the HELP Program will be granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive exam.
