The Family Specialist operates within the agency's Domestic Violence and Victim Advocacy Program. This position is responsible for serving victims of abuse and crime by providing case management and advocacy services. The role also includes community outreach and education requirements. Services are delivered within a progressive nonprofit agency committed to supporting individuals who are at risk or have experienced abuse.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Perform confidential and trauma-informed needs assessments, risk assessments, case management, and resource and referral assistance for victims of crime and at-risk youth. Advocate for victims within multiple systems, including but not limited to the District Attorney's Office, Family Law, Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, and Social Service agencies. Adhere to child-abuse mandated reporting requirements. Complete in-depth phone screenings and preliminary intakes with individuals accessing services and develop appropriate service plans. Meet with walk-in and scheduled clients and occasionally respond to hospitals and law enforcement agencies when emergency requests for assistance are received. Provide direct restraining-order assistance to eligible clients and offer court accompaniment. Conduct intake screenings for Alli's House Safe, a shelter home managed by

SAFE FJC.

Work cooperatively with other agencies and individuals involved with the client to ensure comprehensive service delivery to victims and non-offending care providers. Maintain client confidentiality as requested by clients and in accordance with professional ethics. Facilitate youth, teen, and education groups focused on trauma education, healthy coping, and related topics. Provide court support for victims and court accompaniment for clients, as needed. Maintain client files and ensure all required documentation is included, keeping all cases in audit-ready condition. Regularly attend outreach events, resource fairs, and community meetings to provide education and raise awareness about the agency's programs. Maintain excellent and ongoing communication with your supervisor to keep them informed of case status and caseload. Ability to take initiative and work independently with guidance, while also contributing effectively as part of the agency's overall team. Provide culturally sensitive outreach, guidance, support, and resources. Assist victims in completing necessary paperwork to access needed services. Educate clients on the legal system, generic resources, and collaborate with community partners within the Family Justice Centers and the broader community. Advocate assertively on the victim's behalf while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships and the psychological impact of abuse on victims and children. Show sensitivity, empathy, and understanding toward others. Develop trusting, empowering relationships and work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Intervene in crisis situations using sound professional judgment, ethical practice, and common sense. Participate as a member of the SAFE training team for Domestic Violence Advocate 40-hour training.
