Overview Rowlett Academy seeks a responsible and dependable Part-Time Cafeteria Worker to join our Food Service team. Working under the supervision of the Cafeteria Manager and alongside an energetic and dedicated staff, this position supports the daily operation of the school cafeteria by preparing and serving nutritious meals, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, and providing excellent service to students and staff. This is a part-time, school-year position working 10:30a-2:30p. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and serve food and beverages in accordance with established menus, portion guidelines, and food safety standards. Set up serving lines and arrange food and beverage items for efficient meal service. Serve meals to students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner. Clean and sanitize utensils, equipment, food preparation areas, serving lines, storage areas, dining areas, and kitchen facilities. Maintain equipment, storage, food preparation, and serving areas in accordance with current health and sanitation standards. Monitor kitchen and cafeteria areas to ensure a safe, clean, and sanitary working environment. Inspect food items and supplies to verify quality, quantity, and compliance with food safety requirements. Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing food, condiments, and supplies to ensure adequate inventory for meal service. Monitor equipment for malfunctions or damage and report repair or replacement needs to the Cafeteria Manager. Assist with inventory counts as assigned. Perform the duties of other food service positions, as needed, to ensure efficient cafeteria operations. Attend required staff meetings, in-service trainings, and workshops. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the Food Service Department. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous cafeteria, restaurant, or food service experience preferred but not required. Basic knowledge of quantity food preparation and food service equipment. Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, and the public. Ability to work independently while following established procedures. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential. Must successfully pass a background check and reference verification prior to employment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for up to four (4) consecutive hours. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, cleaning chemicals and high volume sounds. Working Conditions Indoor school cafeteria and commercial kitchen environment. Frequent interaction with students, staff, and visitors. Requires adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
