Our Mission:

New Hope for Families provides shelter and early learning programs to keep families together and lift every child into a promising future. About the Shelter The Family Programming Coordinator is a member of the New Hope Shelter team. When a family with children faces a housing crisis, like sleeping outside, the Shelter team intervenes with emergency overnight shelter. Families bunk in a locked, private bedroom and share the kitchen, laundry and common spaces with other residents. We provide housing-focused case management designed to help families reconnect to affordable housing as quickly as possible. More than 85% of our families do, and it only takes an average of 90 days. We can shelter 12 families at a time, but also divert many more to other safe situations where they can access a new lease. About The Job The Family Programming Coordinator reports to the Shelter Director and primarily works with the Shelter team. We are searching for a positive, enthusiastic applicant who thrives on a team. The best candidate enjoys planning events, is delighted by children, and has an empathetic disposition toward people in crisis. The Family Programming Coordinator plans and implements events like after school tutoring, holiday events, and more. When we provide regular after-school events we can be sure our families are encouraged during their stay in shelter, and that we have provided a chance for them to spend quality time with their children and build positive memories despite their difficult circumstances. Family Programming, 12 Hours/Week Family Programming events include observing birthdays, celebrating major holidays, offering weekly game and craft nights, and more. The Family Programming Coordinator takes responsibility for our calendar of events and joins the Shelter Director in recruiting and managing volunteers. Site Supervision 10 Hours/Week The Family Programming Coordinator lives on-site in our 1-bedroom apartment and responds to lockouts and after hours emergencies 5 nights per week as needed (between 9PM and 6AM). Shelter Staff rotate an on-call phone and respond to emergencies reported by the Family Programming Coordinator. The Family Programming Coordinator leverages their strong relationships with families to help them clean and manage their shared living space. In addition, they join our Custodian cleaning the shelter suites and ensuring they are well stocked with supplies. Generally, they will clean the shelter suites 2 days per week. The Family Programming Coordinator works 4 days per week including one weekend day.

Job Activities:

• Plans and leads special events and celebrations for New Hope families in coordination with Shelter and ELC staff.
• Tracks birthdays and plans cards/celebrations for shelter residents
• Tracks move-outs and plans move-out acknowledgements and celebrations
• Builds relationships with volunteers and manages their activities at events.
• In partnership with Shelter team, supervises after school program volunteers as needed
• Responds to lockouts and minor issues as well as reporting emergencies to shelter on call staff
• Provides light cleaning (Sweep, Mop floors and cleans countertops in shelter suites) in coordination with Custodian and shelter staff
• Coaches and empowers families in crisis to clean and care for their rooms in partnership with shelter and custodial staff. Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma if currently enrolled in secondary education OR associate's degree or higher if no longer enrolled in secondary education
• Moves into New Hope's 1-bedroom apartment
