Job Description
About Legal Prep Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with law firms, judges, corporate legal departments, and other community partners. The school pairs high academic expectations with trauma-informed, restorative practices and strong social-emotional supports. Legal Prep's Indianapolis campus opened in Fall 2026 serving students in 6th and 9th grades and will grow into a full 6-12 school. Building strong relationships with Indianapolis families and communities is essential to the school's continued growth and success. Position Overview Legal Prep is seeking a dynamic, highly organized, and results-oriented Family & Community Engagement Coordinator to lead grassroots student recruitment and strengthen relationships with current and prospective families throughout Indianapolis. Student recruitment is a central responsibility of this position. The Coordinator will spend significant time in the community identifying prospective families, building relationships, attending events, developing referral networks, conducting direct outreach, and helping interested families move from initial contact through enrollment. Successful recruitment requires more than strong interpersonal skills. The Coordinator must also be exceptionally organized and disciplined about follow-up. Every prospective-family interaction, outreach effort, lead, and next step must be accurately and consistently documented in Legal Prep's recruitment and enrollment systems. The successful candidate will combine the energy and confidence to engage new people with the organization and persistence necessary to turn those relationships into measurable enrollment results. Because many of the best opportunities to connect with families occur outside of the traditional school day, this position requires regular participation in evening and weekend community events, recruitment activities, and family programs . Responsibilities Student Recruitment & Enrollment Serve as a key member of Legal Prep's student recruitment team and take direct responsibility for generating prospective-student leads and helping the school meet enrollment goals. Conduct frequent, proactive outreach to prospective students and families throughout Indianapolis. Develop relationships with elementary and middle schools, community organizations, churches and faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations, youth programs, businesses, and other organizations that can connect families with Legal Prep. Represent Legal Prep at school fairs, community festivals, neighborhood events, information sessions, open houses, and other recruitment opportunities. Conduct phone, text, email, and in-person outreach to prospective families. Clearly and enthusiastically communicate Legal Prep's mission, academic program, law-themed curriculum, transportation options, student supports, and other aspects of the school experience. Help prospective families navigate the enrollment process, including Enroll Indy and Legal Prep registration requirements. Follow up persistently and professionally with prospective families from initial inquiry through enrollment and attendance. Identify new recruitment opportunities and recommend strategies based on experience and results in the field. Recruitment Tracking & Data Management Accurately enter and maintain all prospective-family leads, interactions, outreach activities, and follow-up steps in Legal Prep's designated tracking system. Maintain detailed and current records so that school leadership has an accurate picture of the recruitment pipeline at all times. Track prospective families through each stage of the recruitment and enrollment process. Establish clear follow-up dates and ensure that prospective families do not fall through the cracks. Monitor recruitment activity and results, including leads generated, applications, completed enrollments, event participation, and conversion rates. Provide regular reports to school leadership on recruitment activity, pipeline status, challenges, and progress toward enrollment goals. Use recruitment data to identify which outreach strategies and community partnerships are producing results and adjust efforts accordingly. Family & Community Engagement Build strong, trusting relationships with current Legal Prep families. Serve as a visible and approachable representative of the school in the Indianapolis community. Help plan and execute family engagement activities, including orientations, family nights, open houses, community events, and other school programs. Maintain relationships with community organizations and partners that can support Legal Prep students and families. Solicit feedback from families and community members and communicate important themes to school leadership. Help connect families with school and community resources when appropriate. Events & Community Presence Maintain a regular presence at community events and activities where prospective Legal Prep families are likely to be present. Attend evening and weekend recruitment and family engagement events as required. Help identify, schedule, and coordinate opportunities for Legal Prep to participate in community events. Prepare recruitment materials and ensure staff have the information and resources needed for outreach events. Assist with setup, execution, and follow-up for recruitment and family events. Additional Schoolwide Responsibilities Legal Prep is a small, growing school, and every staff member plays a role in helping the school operate successfully. When recruitment and family engagement responsibilities allow, the Family & Community Engagement Coordinator will be expected to assist with other school needs and priorities. These responsibilities may include supporting arrival or dismissal, student supervision, front-office coverage, family communications, student registration, school events, administrative projects, transportation or attendance follow-up, or other reasonable duties assigned by school leadership. Legal Prep is seeking a team member who understands that working at a small, entrepreneurial school requires flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to step in wherever needed to support students, families, and colleagues. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred; significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Demonstrated experience in student recruitment, community outreach, enrollment, sales, organizing, family engagement, or another highly relationship-driven role preferred. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the confidence to initiate conversations and build relationships with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to conduct persistent, professional follow-up and move prospective families from initial interest to action. Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to use a CRM, database, spreadsheet, or similar system to consistently track contacts, activities, and outcomes. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to independently manage a large pipeline of prospective families and multiple competing priorities. Comfort being evaluated based on recruitment activity and measurable enrollment results. Familiarity with Indianapolis neighborhoods, community organizations, schools, and families strongly preferred. Experience with Enroll Indy or Indianapolis school enrollment strongly preferred. Spanish language fluency or conversational proficiency is a plus. Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends regularly when recruitment and community events require it.
