The Family Justice Center of St. Joseph County is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. We are seeking a compassionate and experienced leader to join our team and make a significant impact in our community.
Position Overview:
As the SOS Coordinator, you will lead Indiana's longest-standing 24-hour crisis hotline, providing critical support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine volunteer management expertise with direct crisis intervention and community education, serving as both an operational leader and a compassionate first responder. The ideal candidate for the SOS Coordinator position combines strong volunteer management and motivational skills with expertise in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care. They should possess excellent communication and organizational abilities, demonstrating proficiency in both direct crisis support and broader coordination tasks such as volunteer training, SART facilitation, and community education. The right person will be adaptable, passionate about non-profit work, and able to balance hands-on crisis response with strategic program leadership, all while maintaining a commitment to serving vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruit, train, support and retain volunteer Advocates who operate the 24-hour crisis hotline, fostering a skilled and compassionate volunteer team. Provide direct crisis intervention to individuals reaching out to the FJC and SOS after an incident of domestic or sexual violence. Coordinate hospital accompaniment services at local emergency departments, ensuring survivors receive timely advocacy support. Manage all SOS-related administrative tasks, including data collection, reporting, and volunteer scheduling. Facilitate referrals for legal assistance, counseling, and other services with the Family Justice Center and community partners. Serve as facilitator for St. Joseph County's Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), strengthening collaborative response protocols. Deliver presentations and training for community-based partners and local colleges/universities on sexual assault prevention, outreach, and education. Assist with client intakes and follow-up appointments as needed. Provide backup on-call coverage for the 24-hour crisis hotline as part of organizational support system. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or related field. Experience managing volunteers with demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate, and retain team members. Strong crisis intervention skills and ability to remain calm under pressure. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with diverse audiences. Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with team members. Proficiency in trauma-informed and victim-centered approaches to service delivery. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for community presentations, volunteer training, and SART meetings. Availability to provide backup on-call crisis line coverage on a rotating basis.
