Job Description

Overview A family in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking an experienced Family Assistant to work Monday through Friday, 12-9pm. The family has two boys, ages 11 and 8, and is transitioning away from traditional full-time childcare as the children become older and more independent. Both boys have busy after-school schedules, with sports and activities frequently running until 8:00 p.m. The Family Assistant will assist with school pickups and driving while using the earlier part of the day for family laundry, household errands, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and light household tasks. The family retains a professional housekeeping service for deep cleaning, so detailed cleaning is not required. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, flexible, and happy to take ownership of the family's daily needs. They should have a positive presence and genuinely enjoy engaging with school-aged children. Responsibilities Picking up the children and driving them to after-school sports, activities, and appointments Confidently navigating highways and unfamiliar routes using GPS Preparing simple, healthy family meals and completing meal prep Grocery shopping and keeping the pantry and household essentials stocked Managing family laundry, linens, hang-dry items, and clothing organization Handling dry cleaning, returns, packages, and household errands Assisting with light household tasks and keeping frequently used areas organized Providing a responsible adult presence when one of the children is at home Assisting with scheduling, activity coordination, and other family-assistant duties Communicating and working collaboratively with the parents and the family's maid service Qualifications Warm, positive, and engaging personality Proactive, flexible, dependable, and discreet Extensive cooking and meal-preparation experience Genuinely enjoys preparing healthy, family-friendly meals Experience supporting and engaging with older, school-aged children Confident balancing driving responsibilities with household tasks Able to anticipate the family's needs and take ownership of responsibilities without requiring significant direction Calm, capable, and comfortable working independently Strong attention to detail and an appreciation for an organized home Team-oriented and able to communicate effectively with the parents and other household service providers Happy to pitch-in wherever needed and become a dependable, long-term part of the household Requirements Minimum of five years of relevant private household experience Excellent driving skills and a clean driving record Comfortable driving a large family vehicle, including a Suburban Authorized to work in the United States Willing and able to work afternoon and evening hours Strong organizational and time-management skills Comfortable preparing simple, healthy meals and following recipes Local candidates are preferred, although relocation may be considered for an exceptional candidate with strong ties to the area Salary and Benefits $110,000-$130,000+ depending on experience and overall fit Health insurance stipend Two weeks of paid time off Weekends off Paid holidays Discretionary annual bonus Family vehicle provided for work-related driving
