What they do
A Family, School, or General Social Worker provides specialized assistance to vulnerable families and children. Intervenes in crisis situations; evaluates individual and family needs, helps clients get access to health care, mental health care or social services such as housing assistance. Advocates for clients and provides follow up visits. May work with teachers, parents and school administrators to help students improve academically and deal with social issues such as bullying.

Job Description
Ability to communicate with the public, vulnerable adults, disabled children, other county employees, law enforcement and school personnel, medical and mental health professionals, attorneys, court and various other service providers. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to analyze complex situations and implement appropriate responses. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in social work, psychology, sociology or closely related field, or a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in any field and one year of experience as a social worker in a public or private social services agency. Must have a valid driver's license. Must complete Foundations Training. Must attend continuing education courses as appropriate.
Word processing and spreadsheet competency required. Willingness to learn additional software as needed for the position is required.
