Job Description

Income Maintenance Social Worker Position Summary The Income Maintenance Social Worker is responsible for assessing, determining, and maintaining eligibility for public assistance programs while providing supportive case management services to individuals and families. This position works closely with clients to identify needs, connect them with community resources, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local program regulations. Key Responsibilities Conduct interviews to collect financial, social, and household information from applicants and recipients. Determine initial and ongoing eligibility for public assistance programs, including Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services (SNAP), Work First, and other income maintenance programs. Review documentation and verify eligibility factors such as income, resources, residency, and household composition. Explain program requirements, rights, responsibilities, and available services to clients. Maintain accurate case records and documentation in accordance with agency policies and regulations. Monitor caseloads and process renewals, recertifications, and case changes within established timeframes. Identify barriers affecting client self-sufficiency and provide referrals to appropriate community resources and support services. Collaborate with healthcare providers, schools, employers, and community agencies to coordinate services. Investigate discrepancies and potential fraud concerns while maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics. Prepare reports, correspondence, and case summaries as required. Participate in training and professional development activities to maintain program knowledge and compliance. Contract Details 13-week assignment Contract Extension Options Available $28-30/hr starting Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Experience One to three years of experience in social services, case management, eligibility determination, public assistance administration, or a related field preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of public assistance programs and social service systems. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies and regulations. Strong interviewing and assessment skills. Excellent customer service and communication abilities. Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and meet deadlines. Proficiency with case management databases and Microsoft Office applications. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Preferred Qualifications Experience determining eligibility for Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF/Work First programs. Experience working within a county Department of Social Services or similar agency. Bilingual skills are a plus. Working Conditions Primarily office-based with occasional community outreach or home visits as needed. Frequent interaction with clients experiencing economic, social, or personal challenges. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
