GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Cincinnati Public Schools invites applications for the position of ELL (English Language Learner) Coordinator to assist with serving diverse students and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Training:

Minimum of two years of experience working with multilingual students, in a school environment or related setting working with the immigrant community in an area related to the duties described below.

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university in social work, communications, or other related field(s) is required.

Bilingual preferred. Spanish, Arabic, French speaking preferred.

Overview:

The ELL Coordinator will improve opportunities for English Language Learners to achieve school success by increasing involvement of culturally and linguistically diverse families in the school community by working closely with the school administration, district level and building level leadership teams, parent associations, and community organizations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as a liaison between multilingual families and the school in order to improve access to culturally and linguistically appropriate resources, REGARDLESS of ethnicity, religion, national origin, immigration status, etc.

Link families with immigrant-friendly community resources and partners, including those designed to assist diverse students experiencing housing insecurity (i.e. Casa de Paz)

Conduct U.S. School orientation activities for immigrant families, providing information related to compulsory education, school expectations, mandatory attendance, social and cultural norms, uniform policy, and access to school supplies

Assists with connecting families to medical and dental services regardless of insurance

Determining what documentation is needed to enroll based on residency and insurance status

Advising families

Obtaining vaccination records

Obtaining translated documents and forms from other countries (e.g., vaccination records, birth certificates, identifying documents)

Assist families, teachers, and counselors with enrollment procedures

Obtaining translated copies of report cards

Assisting with the administration of state English Language Proficiency screening and assessments

Identifying service delivery model based on student need and prior education experience

Access software applications, technology and communication tools to create and distribute surveys, notices, and other assessment tools that will improve provision of appropriate services to diverse familie

Work in collaboration with the district staff and partners to schedule parent meetings, as well as interpreters for a variety of purposes

Assist with enrollment procedures and ELL data entry into CPS data systems for PreK-12 students, including the following tasks

Support on-going partnerships with community agencies and attend community events to promote Cincinnati Public Schools

Facilitate diverse parent group meetings and recruit parent/family members for volunteers

Organize and maintain linkages for diverse families with social agencies and support resources

Develop and maintain a system for communicating ELL service information to families

Ability to meet and adhere to deadlines and funding guidelines

Employment Provisions

Starting Salary:

$28.23 per hour

Service Period:

191 days annual

•7 hours daily
