General Description:
The Group Leader for After-School Care is responsible for providing direct supervision, care, and support to students participating in the school division's after-school childcare program. The Group Leader creates a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where students can receive academic support, participate in enrichment and recreational activities, and develop positive social skills.
The Group Leader works collaboratively with the After-School Childcare Coordinator, school administrators, teachers, other childcare staff, students, and families to ensure the effective operation of the after-school program and the safety and well-being of all participating students.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or community setting preferred
Ability to effectively supervise and interact with school-age children
Ability to plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, school personnel, and other childcare staff
Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification
Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow school division policies and procedures
Essential Job Functions:
Provide direct supervision of students participating in the after-school childcare program.
Maintain a safe, welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for all students.
Follow established schedules, routines, and procedures for the after-school program.
Maintain accurate daily attendance and account for students throughout the program.
Ensure that students are released only to individuals authorized by the program and in accordance with established dismissal procedures.
Plan and/or facilitate age-appropriate academic, enrichment, recreational, and social activities.
Establish and maintain appropriate expectations for student behavior using positive behavior management strategies consistent with school division policies and program expectations.
Communicate student behavior concerns, academic needs, injuries, illnesses, or other significant concerns to the After-School Childcare Coordinator and/or appropriate school personnel.
Ensure that program areas are clean, organized, safe, and appropriately prepared for student activities.
Communicate with parents and guardians in a courteous and professional manner regarding routine student needs and program-related matters.
Refer questions, concerns, or complaints that require administrative attention to the After-School Childcare Coordinator.
Participate in required training and professional development related to student supervision, safety, behavior management, emergency procedures, and program expectations.
Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification as required by the program.
Follow all Patrick County Public Schools policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable state regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the After-School Childcare Coordinator or appropriate school division administrator.
