PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(including but not limited to) We are seeking a qualified behavioral health candidate to join our team. The overnight- weekend Residential Counselor provides adequate care and supervision of foster youth residents in our care individually and in groups, in accordance with applicable law, licensing regulations, our clinical team and facility policies. The Residential Counselor's goals will be to improve the quality of life and make a difference in the lives of the youth under their direct care by providing direct supervision, support and behavior management in a safe, therapeutic, and nurturing environment residing in residential care. Double shifts may be required. Must remain awake on an overnight shift. Standing/sitting and walking required. Able to intervene in a crisis. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess at least ONE of the following.
  • Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree.
  • A valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
  • Demonstrated completion of 12 semester hours of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • A valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • A valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating they are a trade journeyperson, who instructs youth in vocational skills plus at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined by California Department of Social Services (COSS).
  • Previous employment as a full-time staff member, or volunteer service at a group home, STRTP, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year.
  • Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice system(s) as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or other relevant experience as determined by
COSS. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
May require physical intervention, emergency response, stairs, prolonged standing"
  • Possess a valid driver license; Have access to a reliable and insured vehicle Have a clean driving record that meets company and insurance carrier eligibility requirements. No history of DUI convictions or at-fault accidents.
  • Must complete criminal record review and a Child Abuse Center Index check in accordance with applicable law.
