Part-Time Therapist & AdvocateThe DC LGBTQ+ Community Center Are you a trauma-informed, licensed mental health clinician interested in working part-time for an established community organization in Washington, DC, serving LGBTQ+ survivors of abuse, violence, and trauma? The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center is hiring! Since 2003, The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center educates, empowers, uplifts, celebrates, and connects the Lesbian, Gay, bisexual, Transgender, and Queer communities in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. We are dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and affirming space where all members of the LGBTQ+ community can thrive. The DC Anti-Violence Project (DCAVP), a program of The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center founded in 2008, works to reduce violence against LGBTQ+ individuals through person-centered case work, advocacy, crisis intervention, community outreach, education, and individual and group time-limited trauma-informed therapy. The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center is located at 1827 Wiltberger St NW and is open to the public 12pm-6pm Monday through Friday and 11am-3pm on Saturdays. Position Summary The DCAVP is seeking a community-based trauma-informed mental health clinician to serve as our Part-Time Therapist & Advocate. The part-time Therapist & Advocate provides mental health support to adult LGBTQ+ survivors of trauma, violence, and abuse in the DMV area. These services are available free of charge to our community members due to grant funding from the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants (OVSJG). The Part-Time Therapist & Advocate is also responsible for assisting with other related projects, such as quarterly reporting to the Program Director in support of the OVSJG grant, collaborating with the Behavioral Health Team, and assisting with the mission, vision, and values of The DC Anti-Violence Project (DCAVP). Position Information Hybrid position 16 hours a week (Saturday in-person hours required) Hourly rate of $30-$35 W-2 Position Reports to Program Director & Psychotherapist Funding available for clinical supervision, continuing education, and licensing fees Required Skills and Experience Appropriate licensure to practice therapy in DC. May require licensure (including by endorsement) in MD and VA for telehealth. Appropriate licenses include, but are not limited to, LGSW, LICSW, LPC. Minimum 2 years' experience working as a trauma-informed professional with a diverse client population, including LGBTQ+ adults Crisis assessment, intervention, and referral experience. Experience conducting and maintaining outreach to other service agencies for direct referral pathways for warm handoffs of clients for services. Knowledge about substance abuse, mental illness, housing issues, and intersecting systems of oppression. Experience in providing services via telehealth and in-person. Ethical, intercultural client care and community relationship skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience working collaboratively with a team of clinicians and interdisciplinary professionals. Preferred Skills and Experience Those with lived experience, BIPOC, trans and gender nonconforming individuals are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience in community-based mental health and/or an interdisciplinary community center setting. Bilingual/ability to provide therapy in multiple languages. Prior nonprofit experience. The preferred candidate is highly motivated with a warm and friendly demeanor and enthusiastic about direct client care. Functions and Duties Provide individual and group therapy via telehealth and in person to adult LGBTQ+ survivors. Caseload is flexible depending on clinician capacity and other duties. Conduct intake assessments with all new potential clients to assess safety, job status, financial resources, living arrangements, current support system, type and history of victimization, legal issues, related medical history, and clinical symptomatology. Provide clients with LGBTQ-friendly and affirming referrals to community-based services, aimed at assisting individuals affected by crime, violence and trauma. Assess clients and provide necessary intervention in crisis situations (safety plans, hospitalization, referrals, etc.). Keep current and accurate records of all clinical interactions in an electronic clinical database system (Ensora Health/TheraNest). Provide data and grant deliverables to the supervisor on a quarterly basis. Work collaboratively with the Behavioral Health Team and interdisciplinary Center staff. Work well with a diverse staff to facilitate effective communication, team support, and an open, warm environment for all individuals who connect with The DC Center and represent the DC Center professionally in the community. Create a welcoming environment and contribute to the supportive services offered in The Center, including assisting the Front Desk Team when requested.
