Our Prevention program provides a welcoming, peer-supported space for individuals in recovery to engage in community activities and build supportive relationships. Primary Responsibilities Provide treatment to and use lived experience in providing crisis intervention and case management services to adults with mental health and co-occurring mental health and substance use needs Be involved in Recovery related support for individuals who have or had a history of substance use Distribute and train community members on the use of NARCAN and its lifesaving benefits, including 'ride a longs' with local law enforcement Monitors clients in milieu settings such as Recovery Cafés, to provide lived experience support Utilize connections in the Recovery Community to promote the Recovery Café as an inclusive environment to facilitate fellowship among those in recovery, as well as a place for those interested in learning more about Recovery from those who are knowledgeable about these matters Delivers presentations to serve the needs of the community and increase community awareness of prevention (i.e. Kane County Institute Days, Elgin Police Department Panel Discussions) Performance Requirements Demonstrate knowledge of documentation standards and capacity to meet documentation expectations. Ability to encourage patients to participate in individual sessions. Ability to assess, interpret and integrate both verbal and non-verbal client input during sessions. Ability to clinically "listen" during session. Ability to establish rapport with patients and interact constructively with others in the workplace. Ability to focus client on individualized treatment plan and goals. Give information in a clear and understandable fashion and respond constructively to appropriate client questions and concerns. Knowledge of human development across the life cycle, as applicable to the clinical population served. Education and Experience Recovery Support Specialists (RSS) draw on their own life experiences to help others develop and maintain their recovery from substance abuse disorders, mental health disorders, or dual diagnoses CRSS certification or capable of attaining the credential within 18 months of hire Show awareness of issues affecting adults with substance use disorder Skill in the use of motivational interviewing and engaging others in healthy life skills Demonstrate a working knowledge of community resources that enhance recovery Knowledge of the dangers of illicit opioid use as well as other substances Bilingual Spanish preferred Experience working with adults with mental health and /or substance use needs Must have valid Illinois driver's license, auto insurance and automobile Ability to administer CPR Willingness to work a flexible schedule if needed.
