About the Job General Summary of Position MedStar Health is looking for a Mental Health Counselor to join our team at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital! As a Mental Health Counselor , you will perform selected patient care activities and participate in the multidisciplinary treatment plan for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients admitted to the Behavioral Health Inpatient unit. Primary Duties:
Demonstrates knowledge of psychosocial growth and development throughout the life span of the patient. Utilizes the dynamics and components of interpersonal relationships therapeutically and assists in the assessment of the psychiatric, educational, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient. Meets 1:1 with assigned patients during the shift and documents this interaction in the medical record. Charts factually and concisely and takes responsibility for making entries into records in correct sequence and according to hospital policy and procedure. Participates in patient care and unit staff meetings. Reports changes in patient's behavior and other pertinent information to the charge RN and to other team members. Can lead all patient groups and co-lead group therapy with RN or case manager. Assists in patient and room searches. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of restraint techniques and aggression management procedures.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree of Arts or Science degree in Mental Health or related field. CPI Certification within one (1) year of employment and recertification every two (2) years. CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) within 90 days. 1-2 years Related experience preferred. This position has a hiring range of USD $22.48 - USD $39.75 /Hr.Qualifications:
