About Valor Recovery Valor Recovery LLC is a new outpatient substance use disorder treatment program in Bangor, Maine, serving adults at ASAM Level 2.1 (Intensive Outpatient), Level 1.5 (Outpatient), and Level 1.7 (medically monitored outpatient MAT). We are a Therapeutic Community (TC) model program. In a TC, the community itself is the method of treatment. Clients do not simply attend groups; they belong to a recovery community with shared expectations, peer accountability, honest feedback, and responsibility that is earned over time. Staff are members of that community as well as its clinicians, and they model the same standards they ask of clients. We have adapted that tradition to an outpatient setting and combine it with Motivational Interviewing, cognitive-behavioral practice, trauma-informed care, and medication for opioid use disorder (buprenorphine and naltrexone) prescribed by our Medical Director. We do not provide methadone. The Role You will work directly with and in support of our Clinical Director who brings more than 30 years in SUD treatment and formal Therapeutic Community training in the George De Leon framework, with experience across residential, correctional, outpatient, and peer-led settings. counselor, a peer support specialist, and a contracted Medical Director. You will carry a caseload, facilitate groups, and help set the culture of a new program from its first day. IOP runs Monday through Friday in a morning cohort and an afternoon cohort, three hours per block, with up to 15 clients per group. What You Will Do — Facilitate and co-facilitate IOP and outpatient groups using the TC approach: community meetings, peer feedback, accountability, and skills-based and psychoeducational sessions. — Provide individual counseling to an assigned caseload. — Complete comprehensive assessments and ASAM Criteria level-of-care determinations at admission, continued stay, and discharge. — Develop individualized treatment plans with each client, and review and update them on schedule. — Plan discharge and continuing care with each client, including referrals to community recovery supports. — Coordinate with the Medical Director for clients receiving buprenorphine or naltrexone, and with the peer support specialist on recovery supports. — Document all services accurately and on time in the electronic health record (BestNotes). — Deliver services in person and, when clinically appropriate, by telehealth under program policy. — Respond to client crises and safety concerns under program policy, and complete incident and mandated reports as required. — Take part in clinical supervision with the Clinical Director, team meetings, record reviews, and quality improvement activities. — Protect client confidentiality under 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA, and uphold client rights, program policy, and the ethical standards of your license. — Support the Clinical Director in building the community: upholding its norms, mentoring clients into responsibility, and keeping the environment safe, respectful, and honest. What You Bring Required — A current Maine license or certification in good standing: LADC or CADC; or LCSW or LCPC with at least one year of SUD treatment experience and the alcohol and drug education required under 10-144 CMR Ch. 123. — Experience facilitating groups with adults who have substance use disorders. — Working knowledge of the ASAM Criteria, treatment planning, and clinical documentation. — Comfort working alongside medication for opioid use disorder as part of recovery. — Sound boundaries, direct and respectful communication, and the ability to give and receive honest feedback. Preferred — LADC. — Experience in a Therapeutic Community or other community-as-method program (residential, correctional, or outpatient), or a genuine interest in learning the model from an experienced TC clinician. — Experience with co-occurring mental health conditions. — Experience with MaineCare documentation standards and an electronic health record.
