Under the supervision of the Executive and Clinical Director, the Therapist/Counselor, as a part of the primary care team, is responsible for providing standardized counseling/therapy and case management services for Icarus Recovery Center's patient population with moderate to severe mental health conditions and/or substance abuse. The Therapist/Counselor will work to address other social needs of patients and will utilize area referral sources for needed specialty care, hospitalization, or advance psychiatric assessments and treatments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide counseling/therapy to scheduled patients utilizing professional counseling standards. Formulates differential diagnosis of mental health conditions and/or substance abuse. Formulates short-term and long-term counseling plans for patients under care, ensuring discharge plans are in place from admission. Consults with medical director and other providers regarding complex patients and regarding prescription medications prescribed by providers. Identify patients with urgent mental health conditions (e.g. suicidal, homicidal, psychotic, etc.) and make appropriate referrals to available emergency or psychiatric treatment facilities. Provide non-scheduled urgent assessment of patients with medical clinic appointments. Provides group and family therapy session as indicated. Provides in-service training on relevant topics for co-workers as requested. Participate in a team management approach to patient care/treatment. Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical and counseling services, including all necessary billing information. Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on special committees. Qualifications and Education Requirements Completion or in process of completion of an accredited program with certification and licensure as an
LMHC, LPC, LCSW, LMSW, LADAC, LSAA
in the state of New Mexico. 3+ years behavioral health experience, possess demonstrated commitment to customer service. Professional experience supporting individuals with disabilities, mental illnesses, or challenging behaviors highly preferred.
