Work Environment In this role, you will engage in a fully remote work environment that allows for flexibility and the opportunity to connect with clients through virtual consultations and services. You will collaborate regularly with interdisciplinary teams, including law enforcement, psychiatry professionals, and community resources. Your work will facilitate effective communication and response strategies in mental health crises, making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and their families. Key Responsibilities Conduct psychiatric evaluations in the field while accompanying law enforcement to assess the need for involuntary detention applications according to California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 5150/5585. Maintain comprehensive and confidential records of patient interactions, ensuring all documentation meets legal and ethical standards. Collaborate with police officers on mental health crisis responses, providing immediate support and guidance within high-stress situations. Develop and communicate response strategies that facilitate effective collaboration among law enforcement, hospital staff, and community service units (CSU). Engage in training sessions for police staff aimed at enhancing their skills in crisis intervention and management of mental health scenarios, focusing on de-escalation techniques. Provide short-term crisis counseling for non-violent patients experiencing mental health episodes, offering support, resources, and guidance. Patient Population / Client Focus You will primarily engage with individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, particularly those who have been arrested or are at risk of being involuntarily detained. This role requires a nuanced understanding of diverse client backgrounds, including socio-economic challenges, homelessness, and access to mental health resources. Your intervention will play a crucial role in stabilizing these individuals, connecting them to appropriate services, and ensuring their immediate and long-term well-being. Qualifications Active licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California. Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field is required. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively in a dynamic environment. Proficient in maintaining detailed and accurate documentation of patient care and progress. Professional demeanor with a positive attitude, thriving in challenging situations while demonstrating empathy and understanding. Preferred Experience Experience in psychiatric settings or crisis intervention roles is preferred. Familiarity with local mental health resources, including referral systems for housing, clinics, and community support. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is encouraged. Prior training in de-escalation techniques and crisis management preferred. Compensation and Benefits This position offers a competitive salary range of
USD 52,000
to 70,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
