Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Duties Conduct comprehensive client assessments utilizing diagnostic tools such as DSM-5 criteria and ICD coding to determine substance use severity and co-occurring disorders. Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based practices like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy techniques. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions focused on addiction counseling, mental health, trauma, PTSD care, and family dynamics. Implement crisis intervention strategies and crisis management protocols to ensure client safety during acute episodes. Maintain accurate clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards, including medical records, progress notes, treatment plans, and billing documentation using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management efforts, ensuring holistic patient care across home, community, hospital settings, and outpatient programs. Conduct intake evaluations and ongoing patient assessments to monitor progress and adjust treatment approaches accordingly. Skills Extensive knowledge of psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and evidence-based practices for addiction medicine. Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to enhance client engagement and motivation for change. Strong background in child & family counseling, social work principles, and working with diverse cultural backgrounds. Experience with crisis intervention, crisis management, and behavioral health emergency response protocols. Familiarity with medical terminology, clinical documentation standards, CPT coding for billing purposes, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and data collection methods. Ability to perform comprehensive client assessments in therapy settings focusing on mental health and substance use disorders. Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems for efficient documentation and medical records management while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA regulations. Skilled in working with individuals with co-occurring disorders involving mental health conditions such as PTSD or anxiety alongside substance use issues. Experience in hospital or inpatient settings is preferred but not required; familiarity with diagnostic evaluation processes is essential.
