About Beginning Step Beginning Step is an established behavioral health treatment facility located in Westland, MI, providing outpatient services to individuals experiencing substance use and mental health disorders. Since 2006, our team has worked to help our clients achieve greater stability, independence, and long term recovery. We are a privately owned, licensed and accredited organization, and a provider for the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN). We are currently seeking a Bachelor Level Group Counselor to join our clinical team. Candidates with bachelor's degrees in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or other related social or behavioral science field are encouraged to apply. About the Position The Bachelor Level Group Counselor works under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator and provides direct services to adults receiving outpatient behavioral health treatment. Part of the employee's schedule will involve facilitating structured treatment and recovery groups, meeting with clients individually to assess their current needs, and provide case management services designed to help clients address barriers that may interfere with treatment participation, stability, and recovery. New graduates and professionals transitioning into behavioral health are encouraged to apply. New employees receive several weeks of structured orientation, training, and job shadowing before independently assuming their assigned responsibilities. Primary Responsibilities 1) Facilitate assigned substance use, mental health, psychoeducational, life skills, and recovery focused groups. 2) Prepare for scheduled groups by reviewing curriculum, educational materials, client needs, and assigned topics. 3) Create an engaging, respectful, structured, and recovery oriented group environment. 4) Complete timely and accurate documentation of client attendance, participation, progress, and services provided. 5) Maintain an assigned individual/case management caseload. 6) Meet individually with clients to identify needs, barriers, strengths, resources, and recovery related goals. 7) Complete case management assessments, service documentation, referrals, follow up activities, and other required records. 8) Assist clients in connecting with community resources and services related to housing, transportation, medical care, employment, education, benefits, recovery support, and other identified needs. 9) Support clients in developing practical problem solving, self-advocacy, and independent living skills. 10) Monitor client progress and communicate relevant concerns or changes to appropriate members of the clinical team. 11) Coordinate services with internal staff and outside providers when appropriate and authorized. 12) Participate in clinical case conferences, staff meetings, training, and supervision. 13) Maintain professional boundaries and provide services in a compassionate, respectful, culturally responsive, and client centered manner. 14) Protect client confidentiality and maintain records in accordance with

HIPAA, 42 CFR

Part 2, agency policy, and applicable regulatory requirements. 15) Complete required agency training, continuing education, CPR/First Aid certification, and other professional development activities. 16) Perform other related clinical and case management duties within the scope of the position.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related social or behavioral science field Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability and willingness to facilitate groups Ability to establish professional rapport while maintaining appropriate boundaries Good organizational and time management skills Ability to complete documentation accurately and within required timeframes Basic competency with Microsoft Office 365 Ability to learn and work within an electronic health record system Valid driver's license Ability to meet applicable federal, state, local, contractual, and agency background and criminal clearance requirements Adult First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire

Preferred:

Previous experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, mental health services, social services, case management, community services, corrections, or a related field Experience facilitating educational, therapeutic, recovery, or support groups Michigan social work licensure for candidates with a social work degree Current MCBAP substance use disorder credential or eligibility to begin the credentialing process Previous behavioral health experience is helpful but not required for the right candidate . We are willing to train motivated bachelor's level professionals who demonstrate strong communication skills, professionalism, dependability, compassion, and an interest in developing a career in behavioral health.
