Mom and Dad have a 3½-year-old son and are expecting a new baby in November. Their son was very recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and has undergone surgery. He will be receiving treatment over the coming year, and Mom is stepping back from work to be present and support him throughout this process. They are looking for someone who can become a genuine source of support as the family's needs shift over the coming year. The role will include caring for the newborn at times, but an important focus will be spending meaningful, engaging time with their 3½-year-old, who will be out of school during treatment. This is NOT a homeschooling position , and curriculum planning is not required. The family is looking for someone who understands the developmental stage between approximately ages 3½ and 5 and knows how to naturally scaffold a child's continued growth. Reading, creative projects, imaginative play, games, conversation, exploring his interests and finding educational opportunities in everyday life should come naturally. A background in education, early childhood development or a preschool environment would be particularly helpful. Above all, the right person will genuinely enjoy engaging with young children, understand how children learn and develop, and be comfortable flexing between the needs of a preschooler, a newborn and a family going through a year in which dependable support will be especially valuable. Responsibilities Provide engaging, developmentally appropriate care for a 3½-year-old who will be out of school for the coming year Support his continued social, emotional, cognitive and developmental growth through everyday activities and experiences Plan enriching activities based on his interests, developmental stage and abilities Read, play, create, explore and find natural opportunities for learning throughout the day Provide attentive, experienced care for the family's newborn as needed Work alongside Mom and comfortably shift focus between the two children depending on the family's needs that day Assist with children's laundry, organization, toys, supplies and other child-related household responsibilities Provide appropriate Family Assistant support to help things run smoothly at home Drive children as needed Remain flexible and adaptable as the family's needs evolve throughout treatment and after the baby's arrival Requirements 4+ years of professional childcare experience Strong infant/newborn care experience Experience caring for preschool-aged children Strong understanding of early childhood development Background or previous experience in education, preschool, early childhood development or another educational environment is a strong plus Engaging and able to create meaningful learning opportunities without relying on a formal curriculum Flexible, dependable and comfortable working collaboratively with a parent who will be home Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Strong professional references Looking for a meaningful, long-term position with a family Compensation & Benefits $35-$40/hour DOE Paid vacation Paid holidays PTO Long-term position About Home Staffing by Rina Home Staffing by Rina is an agency that doesn't simply fill jobs — we create connections and help build long-term relationships where both employer and employee feel happy.
