Our Special Needs Nannies play a vital role in supporting children's development, independence, communication, and daily routines while creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment. This position is ideal for caregivers who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.
Compensation:
$17 - $19 hourly
Responsibilities:
Child Care & Safety Provide attentive, individualized care based on each child's unique needs and abilities. Maintain a safe and supportive environment at all times. Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities. Assist with personal care tasks as needed, including toileting, dressing, feeding, and hygiene routines. Development & Engagement Implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate activities. Encourage social, emotional, communication, and life skills development. Support sensory play and sensory regulation strategies. Assist with homework, educational activities, and therapeutic goals when appropriate. Foster independence through positive reinforcement and encouragement. Communication Support Utilize communication methods appropriate to the child, including: AAC devices PECS systems Visual schedules Sign language Social stories Follow guidance from parents and therapy professionals when applicable. Maintain clear communication with families regarding the child's day, progress, and challenges. Behavioral Support Implement positive behavior support strategies. Remain calm and patient during periods of dysregulation or challenging behaviors. Redirect behaviors appropriately while maintaining the child's dignity and emotional well-being. Follow established behavior plans provided by parents or therapists. Household Support Related to Child Care Prepare meals and snacks for the child. Clean up child-related areas and activities. Wash children's dishes and assist with children's laundry as requested. Organize toys, learning materials, and sensory equipment.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working with children with autism, special needs, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges preferred. Experience as a nanny, childcare provider, teacher, paraprofessional, RBT, therapist assistant, camp counselor, or special education aide is highly valued. Strong patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. Ability to pass a comprehensive background screening. CPR and First Aid Certification preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Preferred Skills Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder and neurodiversity-affirming practices. Familiarity with sensory processing needs and sensory regulation techniques. Experience using AAC devices, PECS, or visual communication systems. Understanding of positive behavior support strategies. Ability to collaborate with parents, therapists, and educational professionals.
