Overview We are seeking a motivated and energetic Part-time Aftercare Counselor to join our vibrant school community. In this role, you will provide safe, engaging, and nurturing afterschool supervision for students, ensuring their well-being while supporting their social and emotional development. Aftercare Counselors are responsible for providing a safe, structured, positive and engaging environment for elementary-age students. Responsibilities Actively supervising children at all times Assisting with independent homework/practice time Leading arts & crafts, STEAM, recreation, team-building, games and enrichment activities Supervising indoor and outdoor activities Assisting with snack/supper, transitions, dismissal and student pickup Taking attendance and maintaining accurate student rosters Following child-to-staff ratios and all safety procedures Using positive behavior-management and redirection strategies Communicating professionally with students, parents, coworkers and administration Reporting incidents, injuries or concerns immediately Working cooperatively as part of the Aftercare team Following all PBMA and DCF policies and procedures Qualifications, Skills & Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred Experience working with elementary-age children strongly preferred DCF 40-hour Child Care Training preferred Applicants who have not completed the required DCF training must be willing to begin required training within the first 90 days of employment and complete all required training within the applicable DCF timeframe Must be able to meet DCF/Level 2 background-screening requirements CPR/First Aid certification preferred Must have reliable transportation to and from work Must be dependable and able to report to work consistently by 2:00PM Must be comfortable supervising groups of children indoors and outdoors Must demonstrate patience, professionalism, good judgment and strong communication skills. Must be able to work collaboratively with other counselors and school staff Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and is willing to be actively involved.
