Child Care Center Director
Job Description
Build a school from the ground up. Leave your name on its culture. Full-time
• $72,000-$82,000 + enrollment bonus
• Howard County, MD Right now, there's an empty building in Howard County. Within a year, it will be full of children laughing, teachers who love coming to work, and parents who can't imagine sending their kids anywhere else. We need the person who makes that happen. Most center directors inherit someone else's team, someone else's habits, someone else's reputation. You won't. You'll start months before opening day, and every piece of this center, from the first hire to the first enrolled family, will trace back to you. The partnerships you forge, the educators you choose, the tours you lead, the standard you set: that's what this place will become. What you'll do Fill every classroom. You'll own enrollment from pre-sale to full capacity. You'll build the pipeline, chase the leads, give tours that turn a curious parent into a family who stays for five years, and read the data sharply enough to fix on Tuesday what didn't work on Monday. Make the center known before the doors open. Pediatricians, employers, realtors, hospitals, the chamber of commerce, the coffee shop with the community board. You'll be out in the neighborhood building relationships, and you'll keep showing up at festivals, school events, and business breakfasts long after opening day. Hand-pick your team. You'll recruit, hire, onboard, and coach every educator in the building. The people you bring in set the ceiling on everything else, and you'll be the reason great teachers want to join and never want to leave. Open strong, and run it even better. Licensing, health and safety, inspections, and launch readiness all run through you. Once the doors are open, you'll lead daily operations, scheduling, budget, and the KPIs that show whether enrollment, staffing, and family satisfaction are moving in the right direction. What you bring A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Business Administration, Education, or a related field, or equivalent real-world experience 3-5+ years of progressive leadership in a licensed early childhood setting A proven record of growing enrollment, not just maintaining it Hands-on experience hiring and developing strong teams Deep knowledge of state licensing requirements and what operational excellence looks like day to day Confidence with numbers: you can look at enrollment and conversion data and make a decision A warm, steady presence that makes a nervous first-time parent feel certain they've found the right place Bonus points if you've launched or expanded a center before, have a background in sales, marketing, CRM, or community outreach, or have owned a budget and hit financial targets. This role is for you if… You'd rather build than maintain. You light up when you meet new people, and they remember you. Hitting a goal gives you a real thrill, and so does watching a teacher you hired grow into a lead. You can juggle six projects without dropping the seventh. And beneath all the business goals, you genuinely care about what happens inside those classrooms. Why now A center only opens once. The families who join in year one will always remember who greeted them at the door. The team you build will carry your standard long after opening week. Very few roles in early childhood education give one person this much power to shape something lasting. If you've been waiting for the chance to build something that's truly yours, this is it. Apply today. We can't wait to meet you.
