Job Description

Overview A warm family in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn is seeking a seasoned and proactive Part-Time Family Assistant to support their two school-aged children, a 10-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son, as well as assist with the day-to-day organization of their home. The family is looking for someone experienced, kind, organized, and confident who genuinely enjoys the Family Assistant side of the role. The family would greatly value someone who notices what needs to be done around the home and takes initiative with tasks such as children's laundry, making beds, tidying, meal preparation, errands, and keeping the family's schedule organized. Both children attend school in the East Village, and a major component of the position will be safely navigating New York City with them. School transportation will primarily be via subway, so the ideal candidate must be extremely comfortable and confident taking children on public transportation throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. The family will provide money for subway transportation and access to their family Uber account for inclement weather or other circumstances when a car makes more sense. The parents are involved and may occasionally work from home, so this role is best suited to someone who can work collaboratively and recognize where their help is most valuable. When a parent is spending time with the children, the Nanny/Family Assistant should be comfortable pivoting to household organization, laundry, errands, or dinner preparation. This is a 9-month contract position through mid-June, with the possibility of revisiting the arrangement for the following school year. The family is looking for someone who can become a consistent and trusted presence in their home. Schedule 15 guaranteed hours per week Ideally Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 2:00 PM-7:00 PM Some flexibility to stay later on occasional evenings would be greatly appreciated Opportunity for additional hours on certain school closure days Family travels frequently during school holidays and breaks A typical afternoon may begin at the family's home with household tasks such as making beds, starting children's laundry, tidying, meal preparation, or picking up groceries. The Family Assistant would then travel to the East Village for school pickup before returning to Brooklyn and assisting with homework, taking children to activities, and providing general care and support for the remainder of the afternoon.
