Job Description
Lead a Location. Love a City. Build People. Carry the Culture. The Message May Be Broadcast. The Pastor Must Be Present. Some pastoral roles give you a platform. This opportunity gives you a church family to shepherd, leaders to develop, a community to reach and a location to build. Coastal Community Church is searching for a spiritually mature, relationally gifted and operationally strong Location Pastor who can bring Coastal s mission, vision and culture to life in a local community. We are not simply looking for someone who can host a service, shake hands in the lobby or preach a good sermon. We are looking for a shepherd-builder . Someone who can stand on a platform with clarity, sit in a hospital room with compassion, lead staff with courage, develop volunteer leaders with patience, read a dashboard without losing sight of the person behind the number and carry a vision they did not create as though it were their own. This role is for a leader who wants meaningful responsibility without having to build alone. About Coastal Community Church Coastal Community Church is a growing, life-giving church reaching more than 5,000 people on an average weekend across its Florida locations. Coastal has been recognized among Outreach 100 s fastest-growing churches seven times since 2019, including being ranked No. 10 in America in 2026 . But growth is not our mission. People are our mission.
Our mission is:
To make it hard for people to go to hell by making it easy for them to go to church so they can experience, know and follow Jesus. We believe everyone matters to God. We believe the local church should be the most life-giving, hope-filled and welcoming place in the community. We believe healthy people grow, saved people serve people, found people find people and generosity changes the world. We work hard. We laugh hard. We tell the truth. We take Jesus seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. And while our name is Coastal, we have no intention of coasting. The Opportunity Coastal is building a leadership bench capable of carrying our culture into current and future locations across Florida. The person selected for this role will begin with an approximately 12-month, fully compensated leadership immersion at our Parkland broadcast location . This is not an internship. This is not a year of watching other people lead. And it is definitely not twelve months of arranging chairs while hoping someone remembers why you were hired. You will immediately own meaningful areas of ministry, lead staff and volunteers, build teams, pastor people and deliver measurable results. The expected pathway is for you to transition into leading a current or future Coastal location after approximately twelve months, based on mutual fit, demonstrated readiness and organizational timing. Learn the house before you carry the house. During your first year, you will work closely with Coastal s executive ministry leadership, location pastors and location support teams. You will learn how we help people move from attending Coastal to becoming fully engaged followers of Jesus. You will become deeply familiar with our culture, systems, leadership philosophy and ministry model before being entrusted to reproduce them in another location. What You Will Lead During Your First Year You will: Lead significant areas of Groups, Connections, Next Steps and assimilation at Coastal s Parkland broadcast location. Help people move from first-time guest to meaningful relationships, spiritual growth, serving and leadership. Recruit, train, pastor and develop volunteer leaders. Build leadership structures that allow ministry to grow beyond your personal capacity. Work closely with location and central leaders to improve guest follow-up, group participation, volunteer engagement and leadership development. Lead ministry meetings, volunteer gatherings, weekend huddles, baptisms, prayer moments and other pastoral environments. Provide pastoral care to individuals and families navigating celebrations, crises, grief, conflict and major life transitions. Learn Coastal s location systems for staffing, budgeting, facilities, weekend execution, safety, communication and community engagement. Participate in service planning, leadership development, staff meetings and strategic ministry conversations. Demonstrate your ability to translate vision into action and action into measurable ministry fruit. Build trust before receiving greater authority. What You Will Lead as a Location Pastor Once assigned to a location, you will serve as its primary local pastor, spiritual leader and culture carrier. You will:
Lead the Location Provide spiritual, relational and organizational leadership for the entire location. Carry Coastal s mission, vision, theology, strategy and values with conviction. Translate churchwide direction into clear local action. Lead the location staff with clarity, accountability, encouragement and pastoral care. Establish annual goals and measurable ministry outcomes in partnership with central leadership. Develop a healthy culture in which staff members and volunteers know what matters, understand what is expected and are equipped to succeed. Pastor the People Be visible, approachable and relationally present before, during and after services. Know the people-not merely the attendance number. Provide pastoral care, prayer, hospital visitation, counseling, weddings, funerals and crisis support within appropriate ministry systems. Help people take meaningful spiritual next steps. Lead baptisms, communion, prayer moments, child dedications, volunteer commissioning and other significant pastoral moments. Communicate biblical truth with clarity, warmth and conviction. Build Leaders and Teams Recruit, develop and multiply volunteer leaders across the location. Build teams that remain healthy and effective without depending upon your constant presence. Identify emerging leaders and give them meaningful opportunities to grow. Coach staff and volunteer leaders through goals, feedback and accountability. Create a culture where people are not simply filling positions but being discipled through serving. Celebrate when someone you developed becomes capable of leading at a level beyond yours. Drive Engagement and Growth Champion the journey from first visit to genuine spiritual family. Strengthen guest follow-up, Next Steps, Groups, serving, giving, baptism and leadership-development pathways. Maintain an outward-focused, evangelistic culture. Build meaningful relationships with schools, nonprofits, civic leaders, first responders, businesses and other community partners. Understand the local community and help Coastal serve it intelligently and compassionately. Develop strategies to reach people who are not currently connected to a church. Lead the Weekend Oversee the complete health and execution of the location s weekend services. Partner with worship, production, kids, guest services, security and other ministry leaders to create excellent environments. Serve as the primary local platform leader and pastoral presence. Communicate vision, lead transitions and help people respond spiritually. Protect the unity of the broadcast and location experience. Preach periodically as assigned and participate in Coastal s communication-development process. The primary weekend message may be delivered from Coastal s broadcast location. That means this is not primarily a weekly preaching position . A candidate who needs to preach every Sunday to feel called or fulfilled will probably not thrive here. The sermon may be broadcast. The shepherding cannot be. Steward the Operations Oversee location budgets, ministry calendars, events, projects and administrative priorities. Ensure that facilities and ministry environments are safe, prepared and excellent. Work collaboratively with central departments instead of building separate systems unnecessarily. Use data and ministry metrics to identify obstacles, opportunities and next steps. Communicate proactively when expectations, resources or timelines need to change. Solve problems without creating unnecessary drama. Own the location without pretending you are the whole organization. What Success Looks Like After Your First Year at Parkland You will have: Developed deep alignment with Coastal s theology, mission, values and leadership culture. Produced measurable growth in the areas you were assigned to lead. Built and developed volunteer leaders who can reproduce themselves. Established trust with Coastal s senior leaders, location support teams and location pastors. Demonstrated healthy staff leadership, pastoral judgment and operational follow-through. Shown that you can carry another leader s vision without losing your initiative or identity. Become ready to lead a Coastal location. After Your First Year Leading a Location Your location will have: A spiritually healthy and unified staff. A growing bench of volunteer leaders. Strong weekend execution without unhealthy dependence on you. An intentional process for connecting and assimilating new people. Growing participation in Groups, serving, giving and baptism. Increasing community visibility and local partnerships. Clear goals, healthy systems and accountable leadership. A congregation that feels known, loved, pastored and mobilized. More people experiencing, knowing and following Jesus.Who You Are You are:
A devoted follower of Jesus whose private character supports your public ministry. Biblically qualified for pastoral leadership according to 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Fully aligned with Coastal s statement of faith, ministry philosophy and standards of conduct. A pastor who genuinely loves people-not simply crowds, platforms or organizational growth. A proven builder of staff members, volunteers and leaders. A strong communicator who can cast vision, teach Scripture and lead significant moments. Highly relational without being organizationally careless. Operationally sharp without treating people like projects. Secure enough to lead boldly and humble enough to remain accountable. Able to carry a vision you did not create and contribute ideas without needing to control the final decision. Energized by shared leadership rather than threatened by it. Comfortable with goals, metrics, budgets, systems and accountability. Emotionally healthy, self-aware and able to receive direct feedback. Willing to make hard decisions, have difficult conversations and address problems before they become emergencies. Able to move between a volunteer huddle, pastoral-care conversation, staff meeting, budget review and weekend platform without becoming a different person in each room. What You Bring The strongest candidates will normally have: At least five years of full-time pastoral or ministry-leadership experience. At least three years of experience leading staff members, high-capacity volunteers or ministry departments. A demonstrated history of recruiting and developing leaders. Experience with Groups, Next Steps, assimilation, pastoral care, weekend services or location ministry. Leadership experience in a growing church, multisite church, church plant or organization of comparable complexity. Strong written, verbal and platform communication skills. Experience setting goals, reviewing results and leading through change. A recent preaching or teaching sample demonstrating biblical substance, clarity and pastoral connection. A ministry degree is valued but not automatically required. Fruit, character, capacity, calling and coachability matter more than framed credentials without demonstrated leadership. You Will Thrive at Coastal If You can build a team before you build a personal brand. You care more about developing people than collecting followers. You can carry the culture without becoming a clone. You believe alignment and initiative can coexist. You are capable of leading from the platform but do not need the platform to feel important. You enjoy both people and systems. You can celebrate someone else delivering the sermon while taking full responsibility for pastoring the room. You work hard, laugh hard and recover quickly when something does not go according to plan. You believe excellence removes distractions, but perfectionism often creates them. You want to help build what Coastal is becoming-not merely maintain what Coastal has already built. This Probably Is Not Your Role If Your primary dream is to preach every weekend. You need to be the senior leader or final decision-maker to feel fulfilled. You regularly describe central leadership as the people who do not understand our location. You see accountability as micromanagement. You love vision but consistently struggle with execution. You love systems but find pastoral care inconvenient. You can point to crowds you have addressed but not leaders you have developed. You are looking for a platform upgrade more than a people assignment. Our Values We Do Life Together- Life change happens through relationships. We refuse to build ministry around isolated leaders or anonymous crowds. Healthy People Grow
- We believe spiritual, emotional, relational and leadership health matters. Healthy leaders continue learning, receiving feedback and growing. Saved People Serve People
- Serving is not beneath us. Jesus came to serve, and we gladly follow His example. Found People Find People
- We live with evangelistic urgency because eternity is real and people matter to God. We Live Generously
- We give our time, talent and resources because generosity reflects the heart of God.
- 90,000 annually The final offer will be based upon pastoral experience, staff-leadership history, demonstrated team development, multisite experience, organizational capacity and previous ministry scope.
