Job Description

Our Search We are seeking a Senior Pastor who will provide strong biblical, spiritual, and pastoral leadership while helping our church move confidently into its next season of ministry. Our church is approximately 150 members and is seeking a pastor who will build upon the strengths of our congregation while providing a clear vision for the future. We desire a pastor who loves people, faithfully preaches God's Word, develops leaders, and is committed to reaching people for Christ. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a biblically grounded pastor, gifted preacher, compassionate shepherd, and capable leader. He should be someone who can stand confidently in the pulpit on Sunday morning while also being willing to sit across the table from a church member who needs encouragement, counsel, or prayer. We are looking for a pastor who leads with humility rather than ego, conviction rather than arrogance, and vision rather than simply maintaining the status quo. Biblical and Theological Qualifications The candidate should: Demonstrate a genuine and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Meet the biblical qualifications for pastoral leadership outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. Hold a high view of the authority and truth of Scripture. Demonstrate sound Baptist theology consistent with the church's statement of faith. Be committed to prayer, discipleship, evangelism, and missions. Demonstrate personal integrity and a life consistent with his public ministry. Have a strong commitment to the spiritual health of the congregation. Preaching and Teaching Preaching will be one of the most important responsibilities of the Senior Pastor.
We are seeking someone who:
Is an excellent biblical communicator.

Preaches sermons that are faithful to Scripture, Christ-centered, practical, and applicable. Can communicate effectively to people of different ages and stages of spiritual maturity. ls capable of both expository and topical preaching when appropriate. Prepares carefully and takes the responsibility of preaching God's Word seriously. Uses preaching not simply to inform people but to help transform lives. Is comfortable teaching in smaller settings such as Bible studies, leadership meetings, and discipleship groups. Pastoral and Relational Leadership The Senior Pastor should be a shepherd who genuinely loves people. We are looking for someone who: Is approachable and available to the congregation. Builds meaningful relationships with members and families. Provides compassionate pastoral care during times of illness, grief, crisis, and major life events. Is a good listener. Can relate comfortably to children, teenagers, young families, middle-aged adults, and senior adults. Demonstrates emotional maturity when dealing with difficult situations. Handles disagreements with grace, patience, and biblical wisdom. Works to build unity within the congregation. Leadership and Vision Our next Senior Pastor should be more than a preacher. He should be a leader who can help the church determine where God is leading it next.
We desire someone who:
Can articulate a clear and compelling vision for the church. Can lead change without unnecessarily creating division. Recognizes and builds upon the church's existing strengths. Develops and empowers other leaders rather than trying to do everything himself. Can work effectively with deacons, elders, committees, staff, and volunteers. Is comfortable making difficult decisions when necessary. Understands the importance of accountability and transparency. Can lead both strategically and relationally. Evangelism and Church Growth We want to remain committed to reaching people who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Senior Pastor should:
Have a personal passion for evangelism. Encourage members to share their faith. Help create an inviting environment for guests and new families. Develop strategies for reaching the surrounding community. Encourage meaningful discipleship and spiritual growth. Help the church effectively connect with younger generations, while also valuing and faithfully ministering to older generations. Understand that healthy church growth is ultimately about changed lives, not simply increased attendance. Leadership Development A major priority for the next Senior Pastor should be developing people to serve.
He should:
Identify emerging leaders within the congregation. Mentor and develop ministry leaders. Encourage members to discover and use their spiritual gifts. Build a culture of volunteerism and service. Delegate responsibility and authority appropriately. Develop future leaders rather than creating dependency upon the Senior Pastor. Community and Missions The Senior Pastor should help the church look beyond its own walls.
We desire someone who:
Has a heart for local community outreach. Supports and encourages missions locally, nationally, and internationally. Is willing to represent the church in the community. Build positive relationships with other churches and community organizations when appropriate. Helps the congregation understand its responsibility to be a witness for Christ. 8. Family and Personal Life We recognize that the health of a pastor's family is important to the health of his ministry.
The candidate should:
Demonstrate a healthy marriage and family life, consistent with biblical expectations. Be committed to maintaining appropriate boundaries between ministry and family. Demonstrate humility and accountability. Maintain healthy personal spiritual disciplines. Be committed to lifelong personal and professional growth. Leadership Style We believe the right Senior Pastor will be: Strong but humble. Able to make decisions while listening carefully to others. Visionary but practical. Able to see where the church can go while understanding what it will take to get there. Pastoral but decisive. Someone who loves people but is not afraid to lead. Traditional enough to respect the church's heritage but forward-looking enough to reach the next generation. Confident without being controlling. Collaborative without being indecisive. Experience and Education Preferred qualifications include: Previous pastoral experience, preferably in a Baptist church. Experience as a Senior Pastor or significant pastoral leadership experience. Proven preaching and teaching ability. Experience leading staff and/or ministry teams. Experience developing church vision and ministry strategy. Seminary or theological education preferred. Experience in a church of comparable size or larger is preferred but not necessarily required. What We Hope Our Next Pastor Will Accomplish Over the first several years of his ministry 1. Strengthen the spiritual health of our congregation. 2. Develop and communicate a clear vision for the future. 3. Increase our effectiveness in evangelism and discipleship. 4. Develop the next generation of church leaders. 5. Strengthen ministry to children, youth, families, and senior adults. 6. Increase our involvement in the local community. 7. Strengthen missions and outreach. 8. Build greater unity throughout the congregation. 9. Develop a healthy and effective staff and leadership team. 10. Help our church become increasingly effective at fulfilling the Great Commission. The Person We Are Ultimately Seeking We are not simply looking for the next person to occupy our pulpit. We are looking for a shepherd, preacher, teacher, leader, mentor, and servant who believes God has called him to serve this congregation. Above all, we are seeking a man whose character is stronger than his charisma, whose love for Christ is evident in his life, and whose desire is to see God's Kingdom advance rather than simply build his own ministry.
