We were founded in 1969 and have grown to serve a community of around a thousand people. We are looking for an Imam to grow our community engagement and lead Islamic programming.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
At least a 2 year degree in Islamic Studies or similar from an accredited university Ability to teach and answer questions regarding Qur'an, Hadith, Seerah and Fiqh. Fluency in English and Arabic with excellent oral communication skills Studied tajweed to ensure correct pronunciation for leading salah Must be a U.S.
Citizen Desired Experience:
Community building Three years of experience in North America. Development of educational programs for adults and youth Counselling
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Imam is the leader of spiritual activities and a critical community builder. Our vision for the Imam is an individual who is available and approachable to the community. One who can answer every day questions, give advice to individuals, and guide the community to become more in touch with each other. We understand that each candidate will have different strengths and weaknesses.
Specific Duties:
Lead or manage volunteer Imams to lead 2-3 daily prayers 5 days per week Deliver 3 jumu'ah khutbahs per month and Eid khutbahs Provide spiritual counselling and guidance Provide counseling services as needed. Counseling is expected to be focused on spiritual guidance and not long term personal counseling. Conduct and/or be available as a resource for educational adult and youth programs Communicate and work with the Board of Trustees and the Executive Council
GENERAL DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
The Imam is expected to work 40 hours per week. During Ramadan, Eid, and other special occasions, duties may require additional hours. The intent is to actively manage workload to maintain reasonable hours during special events. We do not expect the Imam to be available 24/7. We expect the Imam to be involved in active community engagement and programming in addition to delivering khutbas and leading salah. Both types of services are equally vital and required. The Imam is expected to maintain regular office hours. The Imam must interact with all persons and organizations, Muslims and non-Muslims, in a manner that is consistent with the Qur'an and Sunnah. We expect the Imam to understand the different valid madhabs and present an inclusive understanding of Islam. The Imam shall adhere to the by-laws of the IAC and the policies set by its Board of Trustees. The Imam's role will be as a religious advisor whose expertise is essential to the running of masjid affairs. Conduct Marriage ceremonies and Funeral ceremonies We do not expect the Imam to focus on academic research.
