WHO WE ARE

At Sanctuary Church, we are committed to helping young people encounter God and follow Jesus for a lifetime. Our vision for student ministry is two-fold:

• That every student would encounter God through our programming, not just learn about Him. We believe God desires an intimate relationship with every young person who walks through our doors, and our role is to facilitate that encounter.
• That every parent and caregiver would be equipped to take the lead in the discipleship of their teenager at home.

Parents wield more influence, time, and spiritual authority in their children's lives than church staff ever will, and we want everything we do to reflect and reinforce that reality. The Youth Pastor carries this two-fold vision for every student in 6th-12th grade — from the incoming middle schooler to the graduating senior being sent out into the world.

THE ROLE

The Youth Pastor provides pastoral leadership and spiritual care over our Student Ministry (6th-12th grade), working alongside our KidCity and Family Discipleship teams so that students experience a seamless, spiritually coherent discipleship pathway. This role also carries a significant emphasis on parent and caregiver partnership, with parents viewed as the primary disciple-makers of their teenagers. This role begins as part-time, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time pastoral position as our student ministry expands. This role reports to the Senior Pastor and works in close partnership with the pastoral staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Faith and Character

• Fully aligned with Sanctuary Church's theology, ethics, and leadership covenant.
• Has a genuine shepherd heart for teenagers across the full range of middle and high school.
• Passionate about equipping parents/caregivers for the work of discipleship, shaped by a conviction rooted in Ephesians 4:1-16.
• Models the fruit of the Spirit through emotional maturity, relational health, humility, integrity, and a deep love for people in both public and private life. Experience and Skills
• Gifts of leadership and the ability to build and shepherd a team of adult volunteers.
• Proven track record of leadership development, whether in vocational or volunteer-led ministry.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to teach clearly to a wide age range.
• Prior experience in youth or student ministry, with demonstrated care for both students and their families.
• Innovator and self-starter. Able to work in a fast-paced, creative environment.
• Experience with Planning Center Online, Google Drive, and other ministry tools preferred.

ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES

: Carry the Vision for Student Ministry

• Partner closely with Sanctuary pastors and leadership to advance the church's vision for parent-empowered family discipleship.
• Hold Student Ministry together with KidCity as part of one unified pathway — one that families experience as seamless and spiritually coherent from birth through graduation.
• Cultivate a ministry culture that is safe, joyful, theologically rich, and consistent with who Sanctuary is as a whole.
• Equip and partner with parents for the critical work of home discipleship with their teenagers.
• Represent the interests and needs of students and families to the broader staff.
• Be a grounding, present, and joyful leader — the kind of person your team looks to when things go sideways, and families feel at ease around. Oversee Student Ministry (6th-12th Grade) Execute or oversee Student Ministry programming, including:
• A student ministry that is relationally driven, theologically grounded, and actively partnering with parents in the discipleship of their teenagers.
• Weekly programming (Sunday gatherings, midweek, or small groups) that creates space for students to encounter God and grow in authentic community.
• The recruitment, training, and development of a team of adult volunteers who are invested in the lives of students.
• Student-specific retreats, camps, mission trips, and milestone events as part of the family discipleship pathway.
• A culture where students are known, challenged, and sent.
• Pastoral care for students and their families, including being accessible in moments of crisis, celebration, and spiritual growth.
• Safety, security, and child protection policies for all student ministry environments. Pursue Meaningful Parent Partnership + Equipping
• Create consistent touchpoints with parents/caregivers — including resources, communication, and events that equip them to lead discipleship at home.
• Be willing to innovate structures and strategies in order to better equip parents of teenagers.
• Partner with Sanctuary staff and volunteers to execute Family Sundays several times per year.
• Partner with the Pastor of Family Ministry to steward the church's Family Pathway — the milestones and rites of passage that mark a student's spiritual journey (confirmation, senior sending, etc.

).

Pay:

$60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
