She/he is responsible for engaging the spiritual needs of the residents, enhancing the spiritual life of every person within the community through spiritual programs that are open to those of all faiths or those of none; through his/her pastoral care, presence, and counsel. She/he oversees and ensures the provision of pastoral care not only to residents but also their loved ones, and staff. The Associate Chaplain is responsible primarily for ministry to assisted living and nursing home residents and their families, as well as ministry to staff in those facilities. He/she must be able to be the celebrant in leading full length Episcopal services with communion every other Sunday in St. Edward Chapel and preach on the alternating Sundays. She/he is expected to visit residents of all faith backgrounds in the hospital as well as on campus. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Builds relationships of trust through visits, presence, counsel, and conversations with residents, staff, visitors, and others; Leads or provides regular worship services and sacramental rites appropriate to all levels of care within the community; Ensures that ritual and sacramental needs are met; Provides formal and informal counseling as needed; Visitations to the Health Center, Assisted Living including Memory Support and hospitals; Prepares and teaches Bible study and other classes needed; As appropriate, counsel residents and family members, as well as staff, especially in response to issues of life transitions, end of life, grief, and loss; Collaborate with staff in assessing resident needs and proposing and/or delivering appropriate responses or care plans, especially when facing transitions of level of care; Keep the residents and staff of Trezevant informed of religious services; Promotes an ethical perspective in situations as needed; Develops and implements policies and procedures necessary to carry out long and short term goals for chaplaincy services; Maintains confidentiality of all sensitive information; offers patient, courteous, and cooperative responses to residents, staff, families, and the public; Contributes to the wider community through publication, teaching, and research including participating in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited; Participates in programs and administrative activities within the Trezevant community. Education and Experience Necessary Bachelor of Arts or Science degree or equivalent; Master of Divinity; Board Certified Chaplain - preferred or in process; Ordained in good standing with their denominational judicatory and/or ecclesiastical endorsement for specialized ministry; Experience in pastoral counseling and working with senior adults.
