Position Summary:

Reporting to the Area Director, the RSA is responsible for supporting individual(s) with developmental disabilities whose medical needs are complex. The RSA primarily provides assistance to the individuals in the areas of delegated medical treatment, personal care, meal preparation and feeding, lifting, and transferring (when applicable), and most activities of daily living. Responsibilities for all documentation and tracking of medical services for assigned homes. Including developing linkages to the community through recreation planning, transportation, and accompaniment to community-based events; This position has no direct reports.

What You'll Be Doing Day-to-Day:

Person-centered Focus

• The Residential Service Assistant (RSA) will support medical management of assigned region in a floater capacity, focusing on up to eight homes and provides a wide variety of person-centered support and services with a strong emphasis on personal choice to the individuals they support.

The RSA serves as an advocate and promote self-advocacy. He or she provides personal and medical support and services based on the individual's needs. Personal Care

• Works collaboratively with the delegating nurse and Program Manager to provide quality healthcare and personal care to individuals receiving Arc services.

Assists with daily living needs, including hygiene, grooming, toileting, bathing, dressing, feeding, transfers, medications, and medical treatments. Coordinates medical appointments and transportation, communicates with stakeholders and the Arc team, participates in care conferences, and supports individuals' overall health, safety, and well-being. Community Integration and Participation

• Supports individuals in participating in community, leisure, and recreational activities, including providing transportation and safely operating wheelchair lift vans.

Provides training and assistance with safety, daily living skills, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices to promote independence. Encourages individuals to make choices, build positive relationships, and become actively engaged in their community while maintaining positive relationships with neighbors and community members. Financial Management

• Assist individuals with banking and purchases in accordance with The Arc's resident funds policies and procedures. Maintain and accurately manage assigned household petty cash funds according to established policies and procedures. Home Operation and Maintenance
• Maintains a clean, safe, and comfortable home environment by changing bed linens, doing laundry, cleaning individuals' rooms, and completing routine household duties. Encourages and supports individuals in participating in household tasks according to their abilities and needs. Communication and Documentation
• Maintains respectful and effective communication with individuals, families, and other involved parties.

Accurately documents individual progress, daily activities, and communications in the designated database system. Valid CNA license for the state of Maryland is required. Must have at least 1 year of related experience working with individuals in a care-giving setting. A good driving record, reliable vehicle, and current Maryland Driver's license are necessary. The candidate must be able to successfully complete training requirements of The Arc. Strong communication skills and demonstrated care-giving skills such as personal care provision and repositioning skills are required.
