Job Description
Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Student Dorm Aide to join our team. As a Student Aide, you will provide support to students and assist with various administrative tasks in an educational setting. This is a paid position that offers valuable experience in education administration. Scheduled Work Hours 1:30pm to 11:30pm Monday through Thursday Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following: (1) High School diploma (required), college degree or course work in in education (preferred), 2 plus years' experience working with children in a school or residential setting. (2) Ability to communicate with deaf students and staff using (ASL) and finger spelling. The ability to successfully complete a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the proficiency level defined for each job position as determined by SMSD. (3) Commitment to the TCI approach in addressing student behavior. (4) Commitment to provide a safe and healthy residential life in a school environmentNOTE:
The school may also require employees in this classification to complete successful training in behavior management programs including, but not limited to TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) which will be provided by St. Mary's School for the Deaf. Responsible for the supervision of students, ensuring their safety at all times; Assist Residential Supervisors with tasks related to the care and supervision of students and building security (No Monitoring Para is permitted to leave his/her designated area without the prior approval of the supervisor. Arrangements must be made to have the area always covered.) Assist in escorting and supervising students to and from routine and special activities including meals, field trips, sporting activities, and other recreational activities. Assist in behavior management (as prescribed for each student) and discuss problems or changes with Supervisors. Assist students with personal hygiene, and may assist multiply disabled students with toileting, hygiene, and other physical day-to-day activities. Responsible for afternoon and early evening student activities, which may include homework assignments, clean-up of the dorm areas, laundry. Intercedes in emergency situations as required; Must always remain alert and attentive, personal cell phones are not allowed during the supervision of students. A desire to work towards and secure a CDL license; a valid state driver's license, preferred; Must attend staff and department meetings, as required. Must attend all the necessary training(s) as needed or required. Performs other duties as requested or assigned by Dorm Supervisors Prior to starting must complete all required OCFS and Justice Center background checks.Job Type:
