ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Human Services Department is seeking a Part-Time Senior Center Aide . This role provides a comprehensive array of services to help residents of Phoenix achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency. Services and programs reach a diverse population ranging from preschool children participating in Head Start programs to older adults attending senior center activities. The Human Services Department (HSD) Senior Programs operates 15 senior centers throughout the city of Phoenix for adults ages 18 and older. Each center is dedicated to providing participants with a variety of leisure, educational and recreational activities in a safe and supportive environment. Eight of the 15 senior centers are co-located with the Parks and Recreation Department. In these sites, members may participate in Parks and Recreation programs in addition to the services available through the Human Services Department senior centers. The Senior Center Aide performs entry level social services in a Senior Center. This position serves as a primary point of contact for the senior center and requires knowledge of secretarial and front office general clerical work and related activities, recreation planning and implementation, and knowledge of social services and issues affecting aging adults. Works with senior center staff to guide and direct program volunteers in a variety of program functions. Work is performed under the supervision of a Senior Programs Supervisor I or Senior Programs Supervisor II.
Key Duties Include:
Primary point of contact for the senior center at the front desk. Greets visitors, checks-in members, processes member registration. Answers program & facility questions, conducts site tours, provides resources. Provides technical assistance to senior center members. Completes transportation-related scheduling and creates program fliers and sign-up sheets. Inputs data into electronic registration system. Works with center staff to plan, facilitate, lead, and/or teach on-site activities. Develops quality marketing materials for electronic information display boards, senior center flyers. Works with senior center staff to guide and direct program volunteers. Completes daily cash handling procedures, makes change, collects contributions, and completes daily deposit. Maintains inventory of senior center program and office supplies. Assists with food service.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Knowledge of:
Cognitive and physical challenges facing aging adults, and persons with disabilities. Anti-poverty programs and services. First aid and safety practices and procedures. Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher, and/or flier creation software. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines. Ability to work with diverse populations. Strong communication and motivational skills.
SALARY Pay and Hiring Range:
$17.72 per hour.
Pay Range Explanation:
Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only:
Please understand that this is pay grade 333. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience working in a social service environment Some college level course work in social work, sociology, social services, or a related field Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted Employees in this classification who are skilled in a second language may be called upon to utilize that skill in the routine performance of their duties All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Experience with front office general clerical work, answering phones and providing program information. Experience planning, facilitating, leading, and/or teaching activities. Experience working in a senior center, community or recreation center, or social service facility or program. Experience working with aging adults or persons with disabilities or cognitive challenges. Experience working with volunteers. Experience communicating in Chinese or Spanish is desirable. Cash handling experience.
