Position Summary:

The Peer Support Specialist provides non-clinical, strengths-based support to individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or other life difficulties. Drawing on personal lived experience, the Peer Support Specialist fosters hope, empowerment, and self-determination while assisting individuals in navigating recovery and accessing necessary services. Essential Functions Share lived experiences and personal insights to build trust and rapport. Offer emotional support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals in recovery Empower individuals to set and achieve personal recovery goals. Promote self-advocacy and independence in accessing healthcare, employment, housing, and social support services. Assist individuals in identifying and utilizing available community resources, including mental health services, substance use treatment, housing, and employment programs. Maintain accurate records of peer support interactions and services provided. Provide information on coping strategies, wellness tools, and self-care practices. Help individuals navigate complex systems, such as healthcare, criminal justice, and social services. Work collaboratively with other support services, healthcare providers, and community organizations to enhance service accessibility. Adhere to ethical guidelines, confidentiality policies, and organizational protocols. Participate in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities. Conduct outreach and engagement activities to connect with individuals who may benefit from peer support. Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals in recovery. Lead peer support groups, wellness workshops, and recovery-oriented activities. Educate individuals, families, and communities on topics related to mental health, substance use recovery, and stigma reduction. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor, which are consistent with the position and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
