Information & Referral Specialist Disability Network Mid-Michigan (DNMM)
Pay:
$20.00 per hour
Schedule:
Full-Time, 40 hours per week

Community Services Program Manager Travel to: Alcona, Arenac, Iosco, Ogemaw, and Roscommon counties. Position Overview The Information & Referral Specialist promotes and encourages independence for all people with disabilities. This position provides services and administrative support that enable people with disabilities to exercise control over their own lives and create an independent lifestyle of their choice. The Information & Referral Specialist works directly with consumers, community members, contracting agencies, and community partners to provide information, referrals, advocacy, independent living services, and connections to community-based resources. Essential Responsibilities Respond to requests from the public for information. Provide appropriate and timely referrals to community resources. Maintain regular contact with community members by telephone, email, and/or in person. Provide independent living services, including advocacy, information and referral, peer support, and skills development training . Assist with the preparation and implementation of community education projects. Conduct presentations throughout the community regarding DNMM services, the Independent Living Philosophy, and/or other disability-related issues. Complete the monthly goal for community presentations. Prepare written reports and billings as required by funding sources. Ensure services and activities follow the DNMM Code of Ethics, governmental and contractual requirements, and the Independent Living Philosophy . Maintain positive working relationships with contracting agencies and community partners. Maintain consumer data and financial records as required by contracting agencies, grant funders, and the law. Attend DNMM team meetings and community meetings as assigned by the Team Leader. Participate in local, state, and/or national committees to promote the Independent Living Philosophy. Submit monthly statistical data to appropriate staff in a timely manner. Provide information and referrals for community-based resources. Promote and encourage independence for all people with disabilities. Maintain all files and complete all required documentation. Complete paperwork, including travel documentation, timesheets, and reports. Participate in collaborative community projects related to disability issues and needs. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Knowledge of community resources. Knowledge of HIPAA compliance. Familiarity with Mandated Reporter guidelines. Knowledge and application of Person-Centered Processes. Knowledge of and experience with developmental disabilities and mental health disabilities. Familiarity with scheduling and tracking due dates. Knowledge of disability issues. Computer skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Strong time management skills. Respect for people with disabilities. Commitment to promoting consumer choice. Comfort with public speaking. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain consumer confidentiality. Ability to locate appropriate resources based on requests from the public.
Education Minimum:
High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred:
Background in social work or another human services-related field . Minimum Experience & Qualifications Disability is not a requirement for this position but is considered an asset in performing the job. Knowledge of and sensitivity to disability issues. Understanding of advocacy on both an individual and community-wide basis. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, with or without accommodation. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the Independent Living Philosophy . Ability to work well with people. Strong advocacy skills. Preferred Experience, Training & Certifications Inform USA Certification. Options Counseling Certification. SOAR Certification. Motivational Interviewing. Community Health Worker Certification. Quality & Documentation Standards The Information & Referral Specialist is expected to: Complete required documentation within 24 hours . Complete required monthly standards by the end of each month. Work with individuals in the environment of their choice. Follow Mandated Reporter guidelines. Schedule Employees are expected to be available during DNMM's regular agency hours of 8:00 AM-5:00 PM and work the authorized 40 hours per week for this position. Occasional flexibility to work outside regular business hours may be necessary. Travel Travel to and from community locations is required. DNMM serves a 12-county area , including: Alcona, Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Roscommon, and Saginaw counties. This position will primarily cover DNMM's northernmost counties , including: Alcona, Arenac, Iosco, Ogemaw, and Roscommon counties. Approximate Time Spent on Responsibilities 50%

Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities . Physical Factors Travel to and from community locations. Working Conditions This position typically operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, including: Computers. Phones. Photocopiers. Fax machines. Filing cabinets. Additional work settings may be required depending on the type of work being performed.
