About Kitchen Angels Kitchen Angels is a Santa Fe-based nonprofit organization with a mission to provide free, nutritious meals to our homebound neighbors facing life-challenging conditions. In our commercial kitchen, staff and volunteers prepare fresh meals each weekday, thoughtfully tailored to meet clients' medical and nutritional needs. These meals are delivered directly to clients' homes by a dedicated network of volunteers who provide not only nourishment, but also compassion, connection, and a reassuring presence. Kitchen Angels is more than a meal-delivery program—it is a caring community of clients, volunteers, staff, donors, and partners working together to help medically vulnerable neighbors remain healthy, independent, and safely at home. Position Summary Kitchen Angels is seeking a compassionate, organized, and energetic Volunteer Coordinator to support the daily operations of our volunteer program. This position is responsible for recruiting, scheduling, training, communicating with, and recognizing volunteers who serve throughout the organization. The Volunteer Coordinator helps ensure that every volunteer has a positive, meaningful experience while supporting Kitchen Angels' mission of preparing and delivering medically tailored meals to homebound individuals experiencing illness or health challenges. Working closely with the Volunteer Services Manager, this position serves as a primary point of contact for hundreds of volunteers who contribute thousands of hours each year in the kitchen, on meal delivery routes, and through administrative and special event support. Key Responsibilities Volunteer Recruitment, Onboarding & Retention Recruit new volunteers through community outreach, volunteer fairs, online platforms, and presentations. Respond promptly to volunteer inquiries. Conduct volunteer orientations and onboarding sessions. Complete background checks and maintain volunteer records. Ensure all required paperwork, waivers, and confidentiality agreements are completed. Identify engagement or retention concerns. Volunteer Scheduling Coordinate daily volunteer schedules alongside Volunteer Services Manager. Fill volunteer vacancies by phone, email, and text. Manage volunteer scheduling software (Better Impact) and maintain accurate calendars. Volunteer Support Welcome and assist volunteers during their shifts. Provide ongoing training and coaching. Ensure volunteers understand food safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies. Resolve scheduling conflicts and address volunteer concerns professionally. Foster an inclusive, positive, and mission-focused volunteer culture. Volunteer Recognition Assist with volunteer appreciation activities and recognition events. Track volunteer milestones and service anniversaries. Assist with volunteer newsletters, recognition stories, and social media content. Help cultivate long-term volunteer engagement and retention. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate volunteer databases and records. Answer phone calls and triage calls. Prepare reports on volunteer hours, participation, and recruitment metrics. Partnerships & Community Outreach Represent Kitchen Angels at community events and volunteer fairs. Build relationships with schools, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups. Coordinate corporate and group volunteer opportunities. Qualifications Education & Experience Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred. Experience coordinating volunteers, customer service, nonprofit programs, or event coordination preferred. Skills & Competencies Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Comfortable speaking to groups and conducting orientations. Ability to work independently while collaborating with staff. Proficient in Microsoft Office and volunteer scheduling/database software. Desired Characteristics Friendly and welcoming personality. Passion for community service and volunteerism. Excellent problem-solving skills. Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail. Professional, dependable, and highly organized. Comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Bi-lingual a plus but not required. Working Conditions & Requirements Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must pass a criminal background check. Must be 21 years of age or older. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Moderate exposure to video display terminals (VDT).
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to assist with volunteer activities in both kitchen and office environments. Occasional evening or weekend work for special events or volunteer activities. Pay:
$22.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
